  1. 1. On initiation of chemically assisted crack growth and crack propagation paths of branching cracks in polycarbonate

    Author : Ulf Hejman; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; stress corrosion; crack initiation; multiple cracking; polycarbonate; three point bending; stress corrosion cracking; polycarbonate; dissolution; branching; experiment; finite element modelling; stress corrosion; crack initiation; multiple cracking; polycarbonate; three point bending; branching.;

    Abstract : Stress corrosion, SC, in some cases gives rise to stress corrosion cracking, SCC, which differs from purely stress intensity driven cracks in many aspects. They initiate and grow under the influence of an aggressive environment in a stressed substrate. They grow at low load and may branch. READ MORE

  2. 2. Two-Sex Branching Populations

    Author : Ali Falahati; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; branching process; martingale; population dynamics; two-sex; bisexual; coupling method; martingale;

    Abstract : We introduce a Two-Sex Galton-Watson Branching Process, to study the dynamics of two-sex populations. It allows individuals to interact with each other in order to form couples (or mating units), and each of these couples produces children for the new generation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Stochastic Models in Phylogenetic Comparative Methods: Analytical Properties and Parameter Estimation

    Author : Krzysztof Bartoszek; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Adaptation; Adaptation; Birth-death process; Branching diffusion; Brownian motions; Conditioned branching process; Evolution; General Linear Model; Hybridization; Macroevolution; Measurement error; Multivariate phylogenetic comparative method; Optimality; Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process; Phyletic gradualism; Phylogenetic inertia; Phylogenetic uncertainty; Punctuated equilibrium; Yule tree; Macroevolution;

    Abstract : Phylogenetic comparative methods are well established tools for using inter-species variation to analyse phenotypic evolution and adaptation. They are generally hampered, however, by predominantly univariate approaches and failure to include uncertainty and measurement error in the phylogeny as well as the measured traits. READ MORE

  4. 4. Stochastic epidemics on random networks

    Author : Abid Ali Lashari; Pieter Trapman; Filip Lindskog; Peter Neal; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Branching process; Configuration model; Random graph; Epidemic process; Final size; Threshold behaviour; Duration of an epidemic; Vaccination; Mathematical Statistics; matematisk statistik;

    Abstract : This thesis considers stochastic epidemic models for the spread of epidemics in structured populations. The asymptotic behaviour of the models is analysed by using branching process approximations. The thesis contains four manuscripts. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Final Size of Multitype Chain-Binomial Epidemic Processes

    Author : Mikael Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; multitype epidemic process; counting process; Markov process; weak convergence; counting process;

    Abstract : A multitype chain-binomial epidemic process is defined for a closed finite population by sampling a simple multidimensional counting process at certain points. The final size of the epidemic is then characterised, given the counting process, as the smallest root of a non-linear system of equations. READ MORE
