  1. 1. Breast cancer : Multifocality, heterogeneity, and related genetic signatures

    Author : Gyula Pekar; Dumanski Jan; Sapino Anna; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : breast; breast cancer multifocality; molecular phenotypes; intertumoral heterogeneity; biobanking; gene copy number aberrations;

    Abstract : Breast carcinoma often exhibits a complex subgross morphology and may occupy a large volume of the breast tissue and show unifocal, multifocal or diffuse growth patterns. Expression of estrogen- and progesterone receptors, HER2 overexpression, tumor grade, and proliferative activity allows us to classify breast carcinoma into molecular subgroups (Luminal A, Luminal B, HER2-type, triple negative, and basal-like). 2. 2. Predictors of Lymph Node Metastasis in Primary Breast Cancer - Risk Models for Tailored Axillary Management

    Author : Looket Dihge; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast Cancer; Axillary lymph node dissection; Sentinel lymph node biopsy; Ultrasonography; Nomogram; Artificial neural network; Gene Expression; Prediction model;

    Abstract : Most patients with breast cancer present with low-risk tumors, node-negative disease, and excellent prognosis. For these patients, routine axillary nodal staging by sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) has no therapeutic benefit. For patients with limited sentinel lymph node metastasis, completion axillary nodal dissection is controversial. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sentinel Node Biopsy in Breast Cancer : Clinical and Immunological Aspects

    Author : Jana de Boniface; Leif Bergkvist; Annika Håkansson; Omgo Nieweg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Surgery; breast cancer; tumour immunology; sentinel node biopsy; CD3-zeta; CD28; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : The most important prognostic factor in breast cancer is the axillary lymph node status. The sentinel node biopsy (SNB) is reported to stage the axilla with an accuracy > 95 % in early breast cancer. Tumour-related perturbation of T-cell function has been observed in patients with malignancies, including breast cancer. READ MORE

  4. 4. Prognosis in carcinoma in situ of the breast

    Author : Fredrik Wärnberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Breast carcinoma; ductal carcinoma in situ; lobular carcinoma in situ; prognosis; histopathological grade; p53; c-erbB-2; Ki 67; Bcl-2; hormone receptors; angiogenesis; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : The incidence of breast cancer is rising steadily in Sweden and the proportion of carcinoma in situ (CIS) has increased appreciably, most likely due to mammography screening. The aim of this study was twofold: (1) to examine risk factors for subsequent invasive breast carcinoma and breast cancer death after primary ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and (2) to study the biology in the progress between in situ and invasive carcinoma. 5. 5. Magnetic resonance imaging in breast diagnosis

    Author : Maria Kristoffersen Wiberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MRI; breast; triple diagnosis; FNAB; size; scintimammography.;

    Abstract : MRI of the breast has, since the introduction of gadolinium contrast agents, been increasingly used in breast investigations. MRI has been found to have a high sensitivity but a low specificity in cancer detection. The aim of this thesis was to study and establish the role of MRI in the clinical diagnosis of breast lesions.
