  1. 21. To predict results of breast cancer therapy

    Author : Anna Nordenskjöld; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breast cancer; endocrine therapy; survival;

    Abstract : We have used the almost complete national Swedish Cancer register, regional quality management register and one randomized adjuvant endocrine trial to study, the effect of radiotherapy in breast cancer with 1-3 positive nodes (study 1), the effect of tamoxifen in estrogen receptor (ER)-positive tumors depending on expression of the progesterone receptor (PR) (studies 2 and 4) and the development of the survival rates of breast cancer in Sweden 1989-2013 (study 3) Study 1. We compared relative breast cancer survival in two Swedish health care regions that between 1989 and 2006 had different guidelines for postoperative radiotherapy. READ MORE

  2. 22. Life Style, Molecular Pathology, and Breast Cancer Risk

    Author : Signe Borgquist; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hormone receptors; Breast cancer; tissue microarray; histopathology; ERβ; tumour proliferation; cyclin D1; p27; HMG-CoA reductas; life style factors; diet; hormone replacement therapy; obesity; endocrine therapy;

    Abstract : The breast cancer diagnosis covers a wide range of tumours with different geno- and phenotypic characteristics. The diversity among studies on life-style factors and their impact on breast cancer risk might be clarified by recognizing breast cancer as a heterogeneous disease. READ MORE

  3. 23. The effects of flaxseed and tamoxifen on the inflammatory microenvironment in normal breast tissue and in breast cancer

    Abstract : Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide today. Nearly 9000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Sweden yearly and despite advantages in diagnostics and treatments approximately 1400 women still die from their disease every year. READ MORE

  4. 24. The Akt/mTOR Pathway and Estrogen Receptor Phosphorylations : a crosstalk with potential to predict tamoxifen resistance in breast cancer

    Author : Josefine Bostner; Olle Stål; Cecilia Bivik; Malin Sund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Estrogen receptor α content is the primary breast cancer biomarker distinguishing the patients responsive from the non-responsive to endocrine treatments. Tamoxifen is an estrogen competitor with large potential to treat breast cancer patients and prolongs time to recurrence. READ MORE

  5. 25. Predictive markers for tamoxifen response in primary breast cancer

    Author : Maria Stendahl; Malmö Patologi; []

    Abstract : It is well-known that a majority of breast cancers are hormone-dependent, making endocrine therapy an important adjuvant treatment after surgery. Susceptibility to endocrine treatment is determined by the presence of estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) in the tumors. READ MORE
