    Keywords : Breast neoplasm; diagnostic; treatment; pathology; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Breast cancer ≤ 10 mm together with ductal in situ cancer of the breast (DCIS) today constitute more than 40% of screening detected breast malignancies. Prognostic factors, diagnosis and clinical outcome for invasive breast cancers ≤ 10 mm and local recurrence in DCIS were evaluated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Interval cancers, positive predictive value for malignance and other early quality indicators in mammographic screening for breast cancer

    Author : Bedrich Vitak; Ingvar Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Mammography; Breast neoplasm; Breast cancer screening; Interval breast cancer; Metastasis; Mortality; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The study was designed to evaluate early quality indicators in screening for breast cancer. lt comprised, (i) investigations of compliance, recall, referral, cancer detection, and interval cancer rates in the Östergötland screening programme of women aged 40-74 years; (ii) evaluation of the three-stage diagnostic procedure for pre-operative assessment of women with suspicious mammographic findings; (iii) comprehensive analysis of all invasive interval cancers detected; and (iv) investigation into how to reduce the number of interval cancers without a concomitant increase in false positives. 3. 3. Hereditary breast and ovarian cancer in western Sweden with a special focus on BRCA1 3171ins5 mutation

    Author : Zakaria Einbeigi; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : BRCA1 gene; breast neoplasm; ovarian neoplasm; hereditary; haplotype;

    Abstract : Aims: To describe the phenotype and geographic distribution of the western Swedish founder mutation BRCA1 3171ins5, evaluate the reliability of mutation analysis of this mutation on archival material, analyse the haplotype for founder effects in families with BRCA1 3171ins5 mutation, estimate the age of this mutation and evaluate whether the occurrence of both breast and ovarian cancers in the same women may be a marker of a BRCA gene mutation. Materials and methods: The first study was based on 16 families with BRCA1 3171ins5 mutation and the second study was based on 18 families with the same mutation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hereditary Breast Cancer in South Sweden. Early findings from studies on the role of BRCA1

    Abstract : The thesis presents the results from investigations into the role of BRCA1 in hereditary cancer in South Sweden. Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) studies found loss of the wildtype allele of BRCA1 to be common in BRCA1 associated breast cancer, but due to the high degree of LOH on chr. READ MORE
