  1. 6. Incidence and interval breast cancers in retrospective assessment

    Author : Kerstin Moberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Breast neoplasm; mammography screening; computer aided detection; interval breast cancer; incidence breast cancer;

    Abstract : The aims of this thesis were to investigate how different review methods used for radiological classification of breast cancers would affect the proportion judged to be false negative, to investigate how computer aided detection (CAD) would affect screening sensitivity, to study the balance between false positive and false negative results and to investigate patient outcome in relation to review result. In a mass screening programme in Stockholm, commencing in 1989 and performed at five independent screening units, interval cancers (presenting in the time interval between two consecutive screening examinations) from two of the units, 103 women, and incidence cancers (diagnosed at subsequent screening examination) from one of the units, 117 women, diagnosed up until July 1993 were identified. 2. 7. Short-term pulmonary side-effects following radiation therapy in breast cancer

    Author : Pehr Lind; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : breast neoplasm; radiotherapy; pulmonary side-effects;

    Abstract : The purpose of this dissertation was to study the short-term pulmonary side-effects following adjuvant radiotherapy for breast cancer in terms of clinical pulmonary complications, loss of pulmonary function and radiological abnormalities, and the association to irradiated lung volume and dose. Furthermore, we wanted to estimate the influence of covariates, e. READ MORE

  3. 8. Dynamic magnetic resonance imaging of the breast : imaging features for diagnosis and prognosis of breast cancer

    Author : Botond K Szabo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Breast neoplasm; magnetic resonance imaging; prognostic factors; survival analysis; image segmentation; artificial neural networks;

    Abstract : The general aim of the present thesis was to identify and study dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) features that contribute to the diagnosis and may help in predicting prognosis in breast cancer. Study I studied the kinetic and morphological MR features and their diagnostic power were studied in a total of 92 women with 109 histopathologically verified breast lesions. READ MORE

  4. 9. Application of nuclear medicine methods in patients with breast cancer

    Author : Brigitte Wilczek; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Breast neoplasm; neoadjuvant chemotherapy; radionuelide investigation; sentinel node; SPECT;

    Abstract : While physical examination, mammography and aspiration cytology or core biopsy form the basis in the diagnosis of breast cancer, additional examinations are sometimes required in the evaluation of unclear breast masses. The study deals with the application and evaluation of different nuclear medicine techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. READ MORE

  5. 10. Nuclear medicine imaging of breast cancer and regional lymph nodes

    Author : Rimma Danielsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : breast neoplasm; scintimammography; diagnostic accuracy; triple diagnosis; axillary lymph node metastases;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to explore the role of nuclear medicine in diagnosis of primary breast carcinoma and regional lymph node involvement. The introduction includes a review over nuclear medicine techniques currently under investigation. READ MORE
