  1. 1. Femtosecond Dynamics and Photochemistry in Solution

    Author : Marcus Rasmusson; Kemisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Kemi; Chemistry; cross-correlation function; chloroiodomethane; dihalides; bromobenzene; ion pairs; solvation; vibrational relaxation; charge-transfer; tetranitromethane; electron transfer; femtosecond spectroscopy; dissociation; Photochemistry; Fotokemi; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Abstract : The reaction dynamics of several polyatomic systems have been investigated in solution by femtosecond spectroscopy. Tetranitromethane-naphtalene complexes excited in the charge-transfer band at 400 nm undergo dissociative electron transfer, resulting in three primary products: [naphthalene].+, NO2 and C(NO2)3-. 2. 2. Free Molecular and Metal Clusters Studied by Synchrotron Radiation Based Electron Spectroscopy

    Author : Aldana Rosso; Svante Svensson; Olle Björneholm; Maxim Tchaplyguine; Gunnar Öhrwall; Uwe Hergenhahn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanoparticles; free clusters; molecular clusters; metal clusters; photoelectron spectroscopy; synchrotron radiation; local structure; core level spectroscopy; auger spectroscopy; heterogeneous clusters; nucleation; bromomethane; chloromethane; benzene; bromobenzene; chlorobenzene; potassium; sodium; simple metals; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The main purpose of this Thesis is the experimental characterization of the electronic and geometric structures of objects called clusters. A cluster consists of a finite group of bound atoms or molecules. Due to its finite size, it may present completely different properties than those of the isolated atom and the bulk. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ultrafast Photo-induced Reaction Dynamics of Small Molecules

    Author : Malin Kadi; Jan Davidsson; Eva Åkesson; Sören Keiding; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; pump-probe spectroscopy; reaction dynamics; photodissociation; aryl halides; spin-orbit coupling; ab initio calculations; molecular dynamics; vibrational wavepackets; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The main focus of this thesis is the investigation of the dissociation dynamics of aryl halides using femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. In the monohalogenated aryl halides, iodo-, bromo- and chlorobenzene, the rate of dissociation following excitation at 266 nm in the gas phase increased with increasing mass of the halogen atom. 4. 4. Photochemistry of Phenyl Halides

    Author : Daniel Karlsson; Jan Davidsson; Michael Ashfold; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Photochemistry; Predissociation; Phenyl halides; Excited states; Substituent effects; Pump-probe spectroscopy; Molecular beam; Dynamics; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : We have studied fundamental aspects of photo-induced dissociation kinetics and dynamics in several phenyl halides. By combining femtosecond pump-probe measurements with ab initio calculations we are able to account for several observations. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molecular Quadratic Response Properties with Inclusion of Relativity

    Author : Johan Henriksson; Patrick Norman; Juha Vaara; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; relativistic quantum chemistry; molecular physics; clamping levels; four-component Hartree-Fock theory; Kohn-Sham density functional theory; response theory; nonlinear optics; second-harmonic generation; two-photon absorption; excited state properties; optical power limiting; Computational physics; Beräkningsfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns quadratic response properties and their application to properties in Jablonski diagrams such as resonant two-photon absorption and excited state absorption. Our main interest lies in optical power limiting applications, and in this context, molecules containing heavy metal atoms prove superior. READ MORE
