  1. 1. Formation and Transformation of Atmospheric Brown Carbon (BrC)

    Author : Kalyan Mitra; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; brown carbon BrC ; primary organic aerosol POA ; secondary organic aerosol SOA ; BrC bleaching; BrC browning; Toluene photo-oxidation; NOx; Ammonia; NH3; acidity effects; light absorption;

    Abstract : Atmospheric brown carbon (BrC) aerosol absorbs light in the UV-Vis spectrum and has poorly constrained but potentially large climate forcing impacts. Most current climate models lack detailed chemistry and interlinked properties of atmospheric BrC, that induce large uncertainties in radiative forcing predictions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Optical investigations and characterization of soot of different morphology and maturity

    Author : Sandra Török; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laser-induced incandescence; Extinction; Elastic light scattering; mini-CAST; Soot; Brown carbon; Black carbon; Maturity; Morphology; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Török;

    Abstract : The formation path from small poorly absorbing incipient soot to larger fractal-like strongly absorbing black soot is extensive, and along this path the optical and physicochemical properties of the soot evolve. Soot emitted into the atmosphere may originate from some stage of this process, which will result in a wide spectrum of carbonaceous aerosols in the atmosphere which may interact with the sun and influence the radiative balance of the earth. 3. 3. Isotope-based constraints on sources and processing of black carbon, carbon monoxide, and brown carbon in South Asia

    Author : Sanjeev Dasari; Örjan Gustafsson; August Andersson; Jos Lelieveld; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; South Asia; Air Pollution; Short-Lived Pollutants; Atmospheric Abundance; Model-Observation Mismatch; Radiocarbon; Stable Isotopes; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The highly populated South Asian region is facing rapid economic growth and urbanization. Here, both climate- and health-affecting atmospheric agents such as light-absorbing aerosols black carbon (BC) and brown carbon (BrC), trace gas carbon monoxide (CO), are often found in relatively high levels compared to in other regions. 4. 4. Characteristics of Particulate Emissions from Low Temperature Combustion and Renewable Fuels : Aerosol Mass Spectrometry of Refractory Carbonaceous Particles

    Author : Vilhelm Malmborg; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Emissions; Soot; BC; BrC; ROS; SP-AMS; MiniCAST; Diesel Engine; HVO; RME; Cook Stove; Emissions; Soot; BC; BrC; SP-AMS; ROS; MiniCAST; Diesel Engine; HVO; RME; Cook Stove;

    Abstract : Particulate air pollution is one of the major causes of premature death in the world, and combustion-derived soot emissions contribute strongly to the particulate pollution to which humans are exposed. Black carbon (BC) is one such emission and denotes soot with strong light absorption in the ultraviolet to infrared spectrum. READ MORE

  5. 5. Born in fire, borne by air : Source attribution and physicochemical characterization of ship and ambient aerosols in the Baltic region

    Author : Stina Ausmeel; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anthropogenic air pollution; aerosol; black carbon; plumes; ship emissions; absorption; source apportionment; climate; Fysicumarkivet A:2020:Ausmeel;

    Abstract : Aerosol emissions from anthropogenic activities cause detrimental health effects and affect the climate system. Combustion is a large source of airborne fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and the uncertainties of the climate role of these emissions are still large. READ MORE
