1. Charged Polymers at Spherical Surfaces
Abstract : Two separate topics in the area of colloidal chemistry have been investigated by the use of molecular modeling: the structural properties of polyion?macroion complexes and of diblock polyampholyte brushes. The main results were obtained by the use of Monte Carlo simulation in the framework of the primitive model, and in the case of polyampholyte brushes the simulation results were also complemented by lattice mean-field calculations. 2. Polyelectrolyte Brush Electrodes for Protein Capture and Release
Abstract : Stimuli-responsive polyelectrolyte brushes switch as a function of pH between a charged and neutral state that affects their electrostatic interactions with other charged molecules like proteins. Adjustment of the pH results in the binding of large quantities of proteins making polyelectrolyte brushes widely used as biointerfaces. READ MORE

3. Poly(N-Isopropylacrylamide) Polymer Brush Functionalized Nanostructures as Thermo-Responsive Gating Systems for Protein Transportation
Abstract : Controlling molecule translocation through nanosized gaps is of great interest in novel systems for single molecule analysis and biomolecular membranes. The molecular gating property of thermo-responsive end-grafted poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) polymer brushes on well-shaped gold-silica nanostructures is intended to be investigated for controlled protein transportation via extinction spectroscopy and fluorescence microscopy methods below and above PNIPAM lower critical solution temperature (LCST; 32 °C in water). 4. Tailoring Surface Properties of Bio-Fibers via Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization
Abstract : The potential use of renewable, bio-based polymers in high-technological applications has attracted great interest due to increased environmental concern. Cellulose is the most abundant biopolymer resource in the world, and it has great potential to be modified to suit new application areas. READ MORE

5. Biomolecule Trapping With Stimuli-Responsive Polymer Coated Nanostructures
Abstract : Trapping biomolecules in nanosized gaps is of great interest in novel systems for single molecule analysis and membranes, which filter biomolecules. Current platforms are lacking in full functionality to facilitate biomolecule trapping and transport in their native environment and without covalent tethering to surfaces. READ MORE
