21. Family symmetries and radiative corrections in multi-scalar extensions of the Standard Model
Abstract : The four articles contained in this thesis all concern aspects of model building beyond the Standard Model (BSM). While Paper I mainly serves as a ``tool paper'' in which the results can be used to simplify certain calculations of one-loop effects from new heavy particles, Paper II--IV all deal with consequences of family symmetries in several BSM scenarios. 22. Searches for Massive Highly Ionising Particles at the ATLAS Experiment and in Polar Volcanic Rocks, and Performance Studies of the First Level ATLAS Trigger System
Abstract : The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics describes the elementary particles and their interactions. Despite passing a number of high precision falsification tests, it is argued that the SM suffers from a number of shortcomings. Many Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) theories have therefore been postulated. READ MORE

23. Search for Dark Matter in events with missing transverse momentum and a Higgs boson decaying into bottom quarks with the ATLAS detector
Abstract : Many astrophysical observations indicate the existence Dark Matter, which is not predicted by the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics. Many theories beyond the Standard Model (BSM) predict new heavy particles called WIMPs (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles). READ MORE

24. Polymers in Aqueous Lubrication
Abstract : The main objective of this thesis work was to gain understanding of the layer properties and polymer structures that were able to aid lubrication in aqueous media. To this end, three types of polyelectrolytes: a diblock copolymer, a train-of-brushes and two brush-with-anchor mucins have been utilized. READ MORE

25. Modeling of glyphosate and metal-glyphosate speciation in solution and at solution-mineral interfaces
Abstract : Glyphosate (N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine, PMG, H3L) is a widely used organophosphorous herbicide. It interacts with metal ions and mineral surfaces, which may affect its mobility, degradation and bioavailability in the environment. However, these interactions are far from fully understood.
