  1. 1. Energy Use and Environmental Impact of New Residential Buildings

    Author : Karin Adalberth; Avdelningen för Byggnadsfysik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; life cycle; environmental impact; energy demand; energy use; multi-family building; single-unit dwelling; building; residential building; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to investigate the energy use and environmental impact of residential buildings. Seven authentic buildings built in the 1990s in Sweden are investigated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Heat Flow in Building Components, Experiment and Analysis

    Author : Petter Wallentén; Institutioner vid LTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; radiation exchange; longwave; shortwave; transient; frequency analysis; finite difference; measurements; wall; window; heat transfer coefficient; convective; full scale; natural climate; in situ; counter flow insulation; heat transfer; dynamic insulation; temperature; building; solar radiation; window model; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : Three building components exposed to natural climate were studied: a dynamic insulation in the ceiling of a house, an outer wall and one window in the same wall. The term dynamic insulation implies that part of the inlet or exhaust air passes through the insulation of a house. READ MORE

  3. 3. Heated air gaps : a possibility to dry out dampness from building constructions

    Author : Tord af Klintberg; Folke Björk; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Water damage; convection; air gap; building; construction; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : The air gap method is a modification of the common way of building indoor walls and floors. The aim of the method is to make a construction, less fragile to water damage, with air gaps where moisture can be removed with a thermally driven air flow, caused by a heating cable. The thesis includes a number of experimental studies of this method. READ MORE

  4. 4. Recycling Potential and Design for Disassembly in Buildings

    Author : Catarina Thormark; Institutionen för byggvetenskaper; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Arkitektur; interior design; Architecture; LCA; Environmental Assessment; Deconstruction; Disassembly; Design; Building Products; Recycling Potential; Recycling; Building Waste; inredningsarkitektur; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp;

    Abstract : Recycling as part of environmental considerations has become a common feature in architecture and building construction. Recycling of building waste can make a considerable contribution to reducing the total environmental impact of the building sector. READ MORE

  5. 5. An Approach Towards Sustainable Building

    Author : Navid Gohardani; Folke Björk; Kjartan Gudmundsson; Göran Lindahl; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sustainability; Built environment; Sustainable renovation; High-efficient insulation materials; Sweden Green Building Council; Vacuum Insulation Panels VIP ; Decision making; GreenBuilding; Early stage; Stakeholders; A Concept for promotion of sustainable retrofitting and renovation in Early Stages ACES ; Early Stage Primary Energy Estimation Tool ESPEET ;

    Abstract : The motivation for development of energy efficiency and implementation of novel advanced materials applied in buildings can be traced to increasing energy costs in conjunction with an enhanced environmental awareness among people. This doctoral dissertation presents contributions towards sustainable building, where factors such as building technology, energy efficiency in buildings, workers' health issues during construction measures, and certain economic considerations for renovation of buildings have been considered.
