  1. 1. Fire safety evaluation of multifunctional buildings - Special emphasis on antagonistic attacks and protection of sensitive areas

    Author : Martin Nilsson; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; multifunctional building; multipurpose building; antagonism; terrorism; design fire; fire scenario; sensitive areas; electrical appliances room; fire protection; hypoxic air venting; reduced oxygen; fire growth; building code; fire safety engineering;

    Abstract : Multifunctional buildings, often hosting societal important functions, have become increasingly more common during the last years. The combination of many functions within the same building as well as an increased exposure to antagonistic attacks create new, not previously well analyzed problems for fire safety. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modelling the Variability of Bending Strength in Structural Timber - Length and Load Configuration Effects

    Author : Tord Isaksson; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; code; reliability-based design; Weibull; test standard; load configuration effect; length effect; weak section; machine grading; visual grading; variability; Structural timber; bending strength; simulation; monte carlo simulation.; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : The load carrying capacity of a beam of structural timber is dependent both on the span of the beam and the type of loading. The longer the beam and the more uniform the moment distribution, the lower the load carrying capacity. This phenomenon is due to the variability of material properties within a piece of timber. 3. 3. Energy Efficient Window Systems. Effects on Energy Use and Daylight in Buildings

    Author : Helena Bülow-Hübe; Energi och ByggnadsDesign; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; simulation; thermal transmittance; solar energy transmittance; shading device; solar protection; cooling; heating; energy demand; building; low-emittance coating; window; glazing; comfort; user aspects; operative temperature; Architecture; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik; daylight; perception; interior design; Arkitektur; inredningsarkitektur; Energy research; Energiforskning;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with energy-efficient windows in Swedish buildings. Parametric studies were performed in the dynamic energy simulation tool Derob-LTH in order to study the effects of window choices on energy use and indoor climate for both residential and office buildings. 4. 4. Modelling and simulation of building components : thermal interaction between multilayer wall and hydronic radiator

    Author : Christian Brembilla; Thomas Olofsson; Per Sahlin; Persson Leif; Annika Moström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydronic radiator; multilayer wall; efficiencies of emission; Systems Analysis; systemanalys; teknisk fysik med inriktningen mikrosystemteknik; engineering science with specialization in microsystems technology;

    Abstract : Background and Scope The scope of this thesis is to investigate the thermal behaviour of building components as hydronic radiator and multilayer walls subjected to dynamic conditions. The modelling and simulation of these building components provide information on how these components thermally interact among each other. READ MORE

  5. 5. Time-dependent effects in the analysis and design of slender concrete compression members

    Author : Bo Westerberg; Jonas Holmgren; Sven Thelandersson; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : The report deals with the effect of time-dependent concrete properties in the analysis and design of slender compression members. The main focus is on how to take these effects into account in nonlinear analysis, not on the properties as such in a materials science perspective. READ MORE
