  1. 1. Eastern equatorial Pacific bulk sediment properties and paleoceanography since the late Neogene

    Author : Daniele Reghellin; Helen K. Coxall; Jan Backman; Gerald R. Dickens; Steve Hovan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Paleoceanography; late Neogene; eastern equatorial Pacific; deep sea sediments; bulk sediment; stable isotopes; surface mixed layer; sediment physical properties; Marine Geology; maringeologi;

    Abstract : Reconstructing eastern equatorial Pacific (EEP) oceanography since the late Neogene (about 8 million years ago, Ma) is a central topic in current paleoceanographic investigations. The reason for this is two-fold. READ MORE

  2. 2. Role of sediment organic matter quality and benthic organisms for the fate of organic contaminants in marine systems

    Author : Maria E. Granberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sediment; ecotoxicology; macrofauna; bacteria; PAH; PCB;

    Abstract : Marine sediments constitute important contaminant sources within our environment. Organic matter input to marine sediments changes seasonally in terms of both quantity and quality, and has been profoundly altered in many coastal areas due to eutrophication. READ MORE

  3. 3. Molecular analysis of lake-sediment organic matter : long-term dynamics and environmental implications in boreal lakes

    Author : Sofia Ninnes; Richard Bindler; Xiao-Ru Wang; Christian Bigler; Hendrik Vogel; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lake sediment; Holocene; organic matter; Pyrolysis-GC MS; mid-infrared spectroscopy; boreal;

    Abstract : Lake sediment organic matter is material composed of residues from plants, algae, animals, fungi and bacteria. Its molecular composition is dependent on the sources as well as secondary biotic and abiotic transformations, which combined generates a highly complex matrix. READ MORE

  4. 4. New tools for sample preparation and instrumental analysis of dioxins in environmental samples

    Author : Lan Do; Peter Haglund; Staffan Lundstedt; Eric Reiner; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PCDD Fs; dioxins; pressurized liquid extraction; PLE; selective SPLE; modular M-PLE; soil; sediment; sludge; gas chromatography; new stationary phases; multivariate data analysis; selectivity; interaction; Environmental Science; miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs), two groups of structurally related chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons, are of high concern due to their global distribution and extreme toxicity. Since they occur at very low levels, their analysis is complex, challenging and hence there is a need for efficient, reliable and rapid alternative analytical methods. READ MORE

  5. 5. Sediment Characteristics and Sedimentation Rate Estimation in the Dukan Reservoir

    Author : Rebwar Hassan; Nadhir Al-Ansari; Sven Knutsson; Salahalddin S. Ali; Fadhil Ahmed Ameen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Area-storage-capacity curves; Bathymetric survey; Dukan dam; Land use; Reservoir sedimentation; Sediment trap efficiency; SWAT; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : The Dukan Reservoir has been created from the construction of the Dukan Dam on the Lesser Zab River where it crosses the Khalakan Thrust Sheet (Khalakan Mountains) through a gorge 65 km northwest of Sulaimani and 295 km northeast of Baghdad. The Dukan Dam is a multi-purpose dam which was built from 1954 to 1959 to control the flooding of the Lesser Zab River, and to provide irrigation, hydroelectricity, and water storage. READ MORE
