  1. 1. Conduits in coronary artery bypass grafting surgery : Saphenous vein, radial and internal thoracic arteries

    Author : Mats Dreifaldt; Domingos Souza; Lars Norgren; Mats G. Karlsson; Michael R. Dashwood; Anders Jeppson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiac surgery; Coronary artery bypass; Saphenous vein; Radial artery; Internal thoracic artery; Vasa vasorum; Nitric oxide; Graft patency; Medicine; Medicin;

    Abstract : A novel technique for saphenous vein (SV) graft harvesting, the No-touch technique (NT), has been developed at the Dept. of Cardiovascular surgery, Örebro University hospital. With NT the SV is harvested with a pedicle of surrounding tissue. This avoids graft spasm and eliminates the need for distension. READ MORE

  2. 2. Harvesting of Saphenous Vein for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting : An Improved Technique that Maintains Vein Wall Integrity and Provides a High Early Patency Rate

    Author : Domingos Souza; Kjell Rådegran; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Saphenous vein; coronary bypass; endothelium; nitric oxide; patency rate; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Thoracic and Cardivascular Suregery; kirurgi; särskilt thoraxkirurgi;

    Abstract : The primary aim of this thesis was to modify saphenous vein (SV) harvesting technique and evaluate its clinical importance. A new "no touch" (NT) technique of SV preparation was developed where the vein is harvested with a pedicle of surrounding tissue, which protects the vein from spasm therefore obviating the need for distension. 3. 3. Infrainguinal Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty in Limbs with Severe Lower Limb Ischaemia

    Author : Anne-Marie Löfberg; Wojciech Cwikiel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; infrainguinal; chronic ischaemia; percutaneous transluminal angioplasty; duplex; bypass grafts; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; radiologi; Radiology;

    Abstract : Infrainguinal bypass grafting is an established method in the treatment of patients with femoropopliteal and crural occlusive disease leading to critical lower limb ischaemia (CLI). However, complications related to surgical procedure are not negligible and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) has emerged as an alternative. READ MORE

  4. 4. Decellularization as a method to generate a new generation of vascular grafts

    Author : Robin Simsa; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tissue engineering; vascular grafts; cardiovascular disease; decellularization;

    Abstract : Decellularization of blood vessels is a technique to remove cells from the extracellular matrix (ECM), which can be used as a vascular graft for peripheral or coronary blood vessel bypass surgery. This thesis focuses on the optimization of decellularization strategies for blood vessels such as porcine vena cava, to determine the optimal decellularization protocol (Paper I) and the ideal method of applying liquids during the decellularization process (Paper II). 5. 5. Clinically-driven angiography after coronary artery bypass surgery : Results from the SWEDEHEART registry

    Author : Mikael Janiec; Rickard Lindblom; Stefan Thelin; Alexander Wahba; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CABG; Coronary artery bypass surgery; angiography; graft failure; Thorax Surgery; Thoraxkirurgi;

    Abstract : The success of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) arguably depends on the patency rate of the conduits. The saphenous vein grafts (SVGs) most often used are subject to graft disease and their reduced long-term patency compared to left internal mammary artery (IMA) grafts is well established. READ MORE
