  1. 1. Mechanism of action of antipsychotic drugs : focus on the nucleus accumbens and the prefronta cortex : an experimental study

    Author : Monica M Marcus; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Schizophrenia; antipsychotic drug; nucleus accumbens shell; nucleus accumbens core; prefrontal cortex; dopamine; 5-11T2A receptor; alpha1 adrenoceptor; C12 adrenoceptor; glutamate; nicotine.;

    Abstract : Antipsychotic drugs have been classified as typical or atypical. To achieve an effective antipsychotic effect with typical antipsychotic drugs, e.g. haloperidol, a dopamine D2 receptor blockade of about 70% seems necessary. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fundamental Characterization and Technical Aspects of a Chelating Surfactant

    Author : Ida Svanedal; Håkan Edlund; Magnus Norgren; Krister Holmberg; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chelating surfactant; DTPA based surfactant; pH-responsive; characterization; surface tension; NMR diffusometry; conditional stability constants; interaction parameter; ion flotation;

    Abstract : The purpose of this study was to investigate the fundamental characteristics of a chelating surfactant in terms of solution behaviour, chelation of divalent metal ions, and interaction in mixtures with different foaming agents and divalent metal ion, as well as examining its prospects in some practical applications. Chelating surfactants are functional molecules, with both surface active and chelating properties, which are water soluble and therefore suitable for chelation in many aqueous environments. 3. 3. Synthesis of Substituted Alkanethiols Intended for Protein Immobilization : Chelate Associated Photochemistry (CAP)

    Author : Lan Bui; Peter Konradsson; Bo Liedberg; Markus Hederos; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The first and main part of this thesis is focused on the design and synthesis of photo-activableand metal chelating alkanethiols. Chelate associated photochemistry (CAP) is a novel conceptof combining two well-known protein (ligand) immobilization strategies to obtain a sensorsurface of covalently bound ligand with defined orientation. 4. 4. Metal-Chelate Complexes in Alkaline Solution : On Recovery Techniques and Cellulose-based Hybrid Material Synthesis

    Author : Alireza Eivazihollagh; Håkan Edlund; Magnus Norgren; Joakim Bäckström; Christian Ekberg; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : For decades, aminopolycarboxylate chelating agents have been extensively used in various industrial applications. The ability of chelating agents to form stable metal-chelate complexes is the main reason for using them to manage metal ions within water-based industrial processes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Interactions between surfactants and starch : from starch granules to amylose solutions

    Author : Isabel Mira; Per Claesson; James N. Bemiller; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; food science and technology; polymer chemistry; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : Starch is a mixture of two polysaccharides, amylose (AM) and amylopectin, which occurs naturally in the form of microscopic granules that are abundantly found in tubers, roots, cereal grains and fruits. In order to bring out their functional properties as thickeners and texture enhancers, starch granules are often disrupted by heating in excess water. READ MORE
