  1. 6. Exploring the Realm of Gene Expression Differences Between White Leghorn and Red Junglefowl Chickens

    Author : Carolyn Fitzsimmons; Leif Andersson; Finn Hallböök; Dave Burt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; chicken; gene expression; microarray; polymorphism; Genetik; Genetics; Genetik;

    Abstract : In this thesis we attempted to elicit patterns of gene expression that influence phenotype, and that may also have been altered by thousands of years of domestication and selection, between red junglefowl and White Leghorn chickens. Red junglefowl are the wild ancestor to all domesticated chickens, and poultry in general are highly valued as a research animal and food resource. READ MORE

  2. 7. Using Minisequencing Technology for Analysing Genetic Variation in DNA and RNA

    Author : Mona Fredriksson; Ann-Christine Syvänen; Aarno Palotie; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Molecular medicine; microarray; minisequencing; molecular medicine; single nucleotide polymorphism; stem cell transplantation; whole genome amplification; allelic imbalance; alternative splicing; Molekylärmedicin; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the four-color fluorescence tag-microarray minisequencing system pioneered by our group was further developed and applied for analysing genetic variation in human DNA and RNA. A SNP marker panel representing different chromosomal regions was established and used for identification of informative SNP markers for monitoring chimerism after stem cell transplantation (SCT). 3. 8. Mining the transcriptome - methods and applications

    Author : Valtteri Wirta; Joakim Lundeberg; John Quackenbush; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transcriptome; gene expression profiling; EST; microarray; RNA amplification; stem cells; neurosphere; Genetic engineering including functional genomics; Genteknik inkl. funktionsgenomik;

    Abstract : Regulation of gene expression occupies a central role in the control of the flow of genetic information from genes to proteins. Regulatory events on multiple levels ensure that the majority of the genes are expressed under controlled circumstances to yield temporally controlled, cell and tissue-specific expression patterns. 4. 9. Molecular Characterization of Genomic Amplifications in Pancreatic Cancer

    Author : Markus Heidenblad; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; FISH; Clinical genetics; PCR; cDNA microarray; array-based CGH; expression profiling; genomic profiling; Pancreatic cancer; gene amplification; Klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : Pancreatic cancer includes multiple histologic subtypes that show large differences in their clinical and biological characteristics. Despite this diversity, more than 85% of the neoplasms in the organ are malignant ductal adenocarcinomas, which are the focus of the present thesis. READ MORE

  5. 10. Effects of polyamine pool manipulation on genes expressed during the cell cycle

    Author : Pia Berntsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Animal physiology; cyclin A; ODC; MCF-7; mitotic shake off; DENSPM; CHO; cDNA microarray; cell cycle; spermine; Djurfysiologi; AdoMetDC; 2D gel electrophoresis; polyamines; spermidine; putrescine;

    Abstract : The polyamines - putrescine, spermidine and spermine - are polycations found within cells. They have been shown to be essential for optimal cell proliferation and cell survival. Cells maintain their polyamine levels in a well-regulated system involving biosynthesis, catabolism and uptake/excretion. READ MORE
