  1. 1. Frequency changes and equilibria in experimental populations of Drosophila melanogaster with three lethal carrying fourth chromosomes

    Author : Agneta Södergren; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila melanogaster; cage populations; fourth chromosome lethals; fitness components; equilibrium conditions; selective values;

    Abstract : Populations where three different lethals are segregating as alleles have been analysed for the conditions of equilibrium and for the trends during elimination of one allele. Early and late selection as well as sexdependent and sexindependent selection has been taken into consideration. READ MORE

  2. 2. Precise cell manipulations and imaging of cellular responses : Methods developed using microfluidic, 3D-printing and microfabrication technologies

    Author : Nikos Fatsis-Kavalopoulos; Johan Kreuger; Aman Russom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : It is at the heart of biological and medical research to try and understand how cells communicate with each other, and how cells respond to alterations in their environment, including treatment with different drugs. There is in this context a continued need for better methods that allow researchers to precisely manipulate cells and their microenvironment and to study the resulting responses using high-resolution live microscopy. 3. 3. NH3-SCR chemistry for NOx abatement: Influence of zeolite support on N2O formation & phosphorus species addition

    Author : Joonsoo Han; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Copper; NH3 SCR chemistry; Zeolite topology; N2O; Phosphorus poisoning;

    Abstract : Different lattice arrangements of Si, Al, and O atoms result in a variety of pore dimensions and zeolite channel network systems, giving rise to different physicochemical environments inside the catalyst cage. The objective of the thesis work was to understand the influence of zeolite topology on NH3-assisted SCR chemistry over CHA, MFI, and BEA frameworks, on the formation of N2O and the addition of phosphorus species to attain fundamental insight into NOx emission control. 4. 4. Evolution of Dispersal and Habitat Exploration in Butterflies

    Author : Ulf Norberg; Hans Van Dyck; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ethology and behavioural ecology; Etologi och beteendeekologi; etologi; Ethology;

    Abstract : The development of wings may be one of the most important reasons for the great diversity among insects. Being able to move makes it possible to colonise new areas and explore resources in the surroundings. However, developing dispersal-related traits, like wings or flight muscles, is costly and moving can also be dangerous. READ MORE

  5. 5. Biological control strategies against the cabbage root fly Delia radicum : effect of predators, parasitoids and pathogens

    Author : Linda-Marie Rännbäck; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Contemporary intensified agroecosystems are contributing to a reduction in natural enemy (NE) populations. In conservation biological control (CBC), NEs are favoured by providing supporting resources. CBC could be complemented with inoculation biological control (IBC) to enhance the effect of NEs.
