  1. 1. Arctic Ocean benthic foraminifera preservation and Mg/Ca ratios : Implications for bottom water palaeothermometry

    Author : Natalia Barrientos; Helen Coxall; Martin Jakobsson; Steve Barker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic Ocean; benthic foraminifera; Mg Ca-temperature; calcite preservation; Marine Geology; maringeologi;

    Abstract : Reconstructions of Arctic Ocean palaeotemperatures are needed to disentangle natural variability from anthropogenic changes and understand the role of ocean heat transport in forcing or providing feedbacks on Arctic climate change. Despite known complications with calcareous microfossil preservation in Arctic Ocean sediments, calcareous benthic foraminifera can be common in interglacial sequences. READ MORE

  2. 2. Impact of Diagenetic Alterations on Reservoir Quality and Heterogeneity of Paralic and Shallow Marine Sandstones : Links to Depositional Facies and Sequence Stratigraphy

    Author : Khalid Al-Ramadan; Sadoon Morad; Luiz Fernando De Ros; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Bedrock geology; Siliciclastic; Diagenesis; Sequence stratigraphy; Paralic and shallow marine; Heterogeneity; Reservoir quality; Berggrundsgeologi;

    Abstract : This thesis constrains the distribution of diagenetic alterations and their impact on reservoir-quality and heterogeneity evolution pathways in relation to depositional environments and sequence stratigraphy (systems tracts and key sequence stratigraphic surfaces) of four selected paralic and shallow marine siliciclastic successions. Typical eogenetic alterations encountered include the dissolution and kaolinitization of framework silicates, which are closely associated to shoreface facies of forced regressive systems tract (FRWST), lowstand systems tract (LST), upper part of the highstand systems tract (HST), and below the sequence boundary (SB). 3. 3. Fossilized microorganisms in volcanic rocks from sub-seafloor environments

    Author : Magnus Ivarsson; Nils Holm; Sten Lindblom; Curt Broman; Harald Furnes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microfossils; hydrothermal systems; deep biosphere; Other earth sciences; Övrig geovetenskap; Mineralogy; Petrology and Geochemistry; mineralogi; petrologi och geokemi;

    Abstract : Fossilized microorganisms are focused in this thesis. Such organisms have been observed in drilled basalt samples from the Emperor Seamounts in the Pacific Ocean collected during ODP (Ocean Drilling Program) Leg 197. READ MORE

  4. 4. Eastern equatorial Pacific bulk sediment properties and paleoceanography since the late Neogene

    Author : Daniele Reghellin; Helen K. Coxall; Jan Backman; Gerald R. Dickens; Steve Hovan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Paleoceanography; late Neogene; eastern equatorial Pacific; deep sea sediments; bulk sediment; stable isotopes; surface mixed layer; sediment physical properties; Marine Geology; maringeologi;

    Abstract : Reconstructing eastern equatorial Pacific (EEP) oceanography since the late Neogene (about 8 million years ago, Ma) is a central topic in current paleoceanographic investigations. The reason for this is two-fold. READ MORE
