  1. 11. Calcium-dependent Affinity Domains for the Purification of Antibodies and Antibody Fragments

    Author : Julia Scheffel; Sophia Hober; Alois Jungbauer; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Antibodies; Antibody fragments; Biomanufacturing; Protein purification; Protein engineering; Protein A; ZCa; Calcium; Mild elution; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Antibodies are essential proteins in both our bodies and biotechnological research, and hold outstanding therapeutic value. The market for antibody-based therapeutics has grown exponentially during the last decades, owing to several advantages over small molecule drugs, such as fewer undesirable side effects associated with a higher target specificity. 2. 12. Infrared spectroscopy : Method development and ligand binding studies

    Author : Saroj Kumar; Andreas Barth; Janos Mink; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Infrared; Ligand binding; method development; Biophysical chemistry; Biofysikalisk kemi; biofysik; Biophysics;

    Abstract : Infrared spectroscopy detects molecular vibrations and assesses the properties of molecules and their environment. It is a powerful technique to detect ligand induced changes in biomolecules as it has distinct signals and provides different levels of structural information. READ MORE

  3. 13. Vacuolar Ca2+-ATPases in Plants. Regulation by calmodulin binding to a N-terminal autoinhibitory domain

    Author : Susanna Malmström; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant biochemistry; N terminus; autoinhibitory domain; vacuole; calmodulin; calcium; plants; Ca2 -ATPase; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : The calcium ion (Ca2+) is essential for all plant and animal life. One important function of Ca2+ is as a second messenger in the responses of the cell to environmental and hormonal signals as well as in some intrinsic developmental processes. READ MORE

  4. 14. The EGF-like Modules of Anticoagulant Protein S. Studies of Ca2+ binding and module interactions

    Author : Yvonne Stenberg; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; enzymology; Proteins; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; calcium binding; Protein S; EGF-like module; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Abstract : Protein S functions as a cofactor to activated protein C (APC) in the degradation of factors Va and VIIIa. In plasma protein S circulates in two forms; 30-40 % circulates as free protein S molecules while the remaining 60-70 % exists in a 1:1 complex with C4b-binding protein (C4BP). Only the free form of protein S functions as a cofactor to APC. READ MORE

  5. 15. EGF-like modules in blood coagulation proteins : Ca²+ binding, module interactions, structure and dynamics as studied by NMR spectroscopy

    Author : Andreas Muranyi; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; residual dipolar couplings; protein S; factor VII; protein structure; calcium; blood coagulation; NMR spectroscopy; EGF modules; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Modules are independently folding protein domains defined on the gene level. The epidermal growth factor-like (EGF) modules are involved in protein-protein interactions and are found in numerous membrane proteins and extracellular proteins, including many proteins of the blood coagulation system.
