  1. 21. Signal transduction via ion fluxes : a cell imaging study with emphasis on calcium oscillations

    Author : Per Uhlén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Calcium; Ca2 signalling; Ca2 oscillation; InsP3; InsP3 receptor; Na; K-ATPase; ouabain; physical interaction; FRET; spectral analysis; confocal microscopy;

    Abstract : Signal transduction via ion fluxes is of vital importance for all mammalian cells. Cells can exploit ion regulatory mechanisms to generate and transmit intracellular signals. Improvements in digital microscopic imaging technology have made it possible to explore micro-environments and complex intracellular machineries. READ MORE

  2. 22. Mechanisms of Brain Damage Following Focal Cerebral Ischemia: Changes in Ion Homeostasis and the Importance of Free Radical Formation

    Author : Gunilla Gidö; Sektion IV; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PBN; free radicals; potassium; extracellular calcium; neuronal damage; energy-depletion; hypoglycemia; Cerebral focal ischemia; spreading depression; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis mechanisms of neuronal damage were investigated in an experimental stroke model i.e focal ischemia. The influence of SD-induced calcium transients on neuronal damage were studied in animals with reduced energy supply. READ MORE

  3. 23. Biosynthesis of capsaicinoids by recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Nina Muratovska; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; capsaicinoids; nonivamide; baker’s yeast; Capsicum; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Pseudomonas putida; lignin-derived substrates; vanillin aminotransaminase; reductive amination; vanillylamine; N-Acyltransferase; CoA-ligase; amide; whole-cell bioconversion; TRPV1 receptor; ion channel; calcium dye Fluo-4; flow cytometry;

    Abstract : Throughout history, people have used products from different microorganisms and plants for many medicinal and nutritional applications. Chilli peppers have been used for spicing up food, but also for their pharmacological properties. READ MORE

  4. 24. Odontoblast phosphate and calcium transport in dentinogenesis

    Author : Patrik Lundquist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : It has been suggested that odontoblasts are instrumental in translocating Ca2+ and inorganic phosphate (Pi) ions during the mineralization of dentin. The aim of this thesis was, therefore, to study the expression of components of the transcellular ion transport system, Na+/Ca2+ exchangers and Na+-Pi cotransporters, in odontoblastic and osteoblastic cells. 5. 25. Surface complexation at calcium mineral-water interfaces

    Author : Liuming Wu; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry of Interfaces; Gränsytors kemi;

    Abstract : Surface reactions occurring at solid-water interfaces in calcium mineral-ligands systems have been studied. Both hydrous apatite and fluorite surfaces show clear amphoteric properties. An ion exchange process between lattice ions of F- on fluorite and OH- ions in bulk solution is discovered. READ MORE
