  1. 6. Inorganic ions in wood chips- Leaching prior to Kraft pulping and effect of calcium on Kraft delignification

    Author : Anna Saltberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; modelling; calcium; Scandinavian softwood; Keywords: Kraft pulping; potassium; birch; eucalyptus; aspen; acidic leaching; oxalate.;

    Abstract : Wood is the main source of Non-Process Elements (NPEs), such as, calcium, potassium, manganese and chloride in Kraft pulp mills. Due to the recirculation of cooking chemicals and water, process disturbances related to the accumulation of NPEs in the process streams are inevitable. READ MORE

  2. 7. Carbonate Ions and Gastric Cancer

    Author : Roy Ehrnström; Malmö Patologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine human and vertebrates ; ODC; COX-2; inflammation; Wistar rats; duodenogastric reflux; Medicin människa och djur ; proliferation; gastrojejunostomy; carbonate ions; Experimental gastric cancer;

    Abstract : Nearly one million new cases of gastric cancer are diagnosed annually throughout the world. Even though the incidence has fallen dramatically in recent decades, this disease is still the second leading cause of cancer death in a global perspective. READ MORE

  3. 8. The interplay of ions in the stimulation of the pancreatic -cell

    Author : Michael Eberhardson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; diabetes; pancreatic β-cells; cytoplasmic calcium; oscillations; glucose; tetrodotoxin; tolbutamide; veratridine; tetraethylammonium; quinine; cesium; H2DIDS; furosemide; transients; microfluorometry; fura-2; MQAE; calcium channels; potassium channels; sodium channels; chloride channels; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : Glucose stimulation of insulin release is mediated by depolarisation of the pancreatic β-cells with accompanying entry of Ca2+ through voltage-dependent channels. An important feature of the glucose-induced depolarisation is its rhythmicity causing oscillations of the cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i), which trigger pulsatile release of insulin. 4. 9. The involvement of calcium and membrane fusion events in neutrophil secretion and respiratory burst

    Author : Daniel Granfeldt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophils; calcium; regulated secretion; membrane fusion; SOC; arachidonic acid; intracellular fusion; oxygen free radicals; phagocytosis;

    Abstract : Neutrophil granulocytes play an important role in host defence during the early stages of microbial infection. The neutrophils have to leave the blood stream and migrate out into the tissue where they are able to phagocytose and kill microbes as well as dispose of cell debris from damaged tissues. READ MORE

  5. 10. Submicron Calcium Phosphate Spheres for Biomedical Applications : Synthesis and Use

    Author : Tao Qin; Håkan Engqvist; Fredrik Nikolajeff; Jie Huang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; calcium phosphate; spheres; dentinal hypersensitivity; drug release; tooth bleaching;

    Abstract : Calcium phosphate spheres as biomaterials have been attracting attention in recent years. Calcium phosphate occurs naturally in bone, and a hollow structure could be advantageous for drug loading and release. READ MORE
