  1. 1. Islet constitutive nitric oxide synthase and nitric oxide production. Modulatory effects on insulin and glucagon secretion

    Author : Björn Åkesson; Allmänmedicin och klinisk epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; mouse; carbachol; muscarinic agonist; cyclic nucleotides; calcium-fluxes; NOS-inhibitors; in vitro and in vivo; insulin and glucagon secretion; Nitric oxide NO ; constitutive nitric oxide synthase cNOS ; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to elucidate the role of nitric oxide (NO) in the transduction signalling of insulin and glucagon release by stimulating or inhibiting islet endogenous NO-production as well as by using NO donors. Insulin release stimulated by L-arginine, the substrate for constitutive NO-synthase (cNOS)-catalyzed NO-production, was increased by the selective NOS-inhibitor NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) and suppressed by the intracellular NO donor hydroxylamine. 2. 2. Endothelial Nitric Oxide in the Control of Glomerular Hemodynamics

    Author : János Pittner; Daniel H. Casellas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Juxtamedullary nephron; afferent arteriole; nitric oxide; endothelial calcium; diaminofluoresceins; fura-2; autoregulation; shear stress; flow; videomicroscopy; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : The afferent arteriole of the kidney is a unique vascular segment: it is the effector of the renal hemodynamic autoregulation. The use of the isolated, perfused juxtamedullary nephron preparation makes it possible to visualize the afferent arteriole while preserving its tissue surroundings and the functional integrity of the nephron. 3. 3. Reactivity of human omental blood vessels. Effects of 5-hydroxytryptamine, substance P and the intravenous anaesthetic propofol

    Author : Susanna Wallerstedt; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensivvård; intensive care; Anaesthesiology; endothelium; calcium; human; hyperpolarization; K channels; nitric oxide; omental artery; omental vein; propofol; receptors; Anestesiologi; serotonin; sympathetic nervous system; substance P;

    Abstract : Regulation of blood flow involves several endogenous substances and mechanisms, and exogenous substances may also affect the blood flow. In the present thesis, human omental blood vessels were investigated in vitro concerning (i) characteristics of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) receptors; (ii) mediators of substance P (SP)-induced relaxation; (iii) direct and indirect (via effects on sympathetic neurotransmission) effects of the intravenous anaesthetic propofol. 4. 4. Interaction between Adenosine and Angiotensin II in Renal Afferent Arterioles of Mice

    Author : Enyin Lai; A. Erik G. Persson; Göran Bergström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physiology; adenosine; angiotensin II; afferent arteriole; calcium; nitric oxide; microperfusion; tubuloglomerular feedback; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Renal arterioles represent the most important effecter site in the control of renal perfusion and filtration. Adenosine (Ado), angiotensin II (Ang II) and nitric oxide (NO) interact in modulating arteriolar tone. The present work investigates the mechanism of this interaction. READ MORE

  5. 5. Regulatory Functions of the Juxtaglomerular Apparatus

    Author : Ruisheng Liu; Ole Skott; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; mesangial; desensitization; nitric oxide; calcium; P2Y receptor; macula densa; NaCl; luminal. microperfusion; angiotensin; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : The tubuloglomerular feedback mechanism is an important regulator in the juxtaglomerular apparatus and it detects flow dependent alterations in luminal NaCl concentration ([NaCl]) at the macula densa (MD) cell site via a Na+-K+-2Cl cotransporter. Signals are sent by the MD to adjust the afferent arteriole tone and altering release of renin. READ MORE
