  1. 1. Novel and Traditional Risk Factors for Coronary Artery Disease : Role of Coronary Artery Calcium, Lipidomics, Psychosocial Factors and Diet

    Author : Demir Djekic; Ole Fröbert; Annika Rosengren; Tuulia Hyötyläinen; Anna M. Nordenskjöld; Magnus Bäck; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Novel risk factors; coronary artery calcium; lipidomics; lipidome; psychosocial factors; vegetarian diet; gut microbiota; metabolome;

    Abstract : Background: The aim of the research reported in this thesis was to determine the association of novel and traditional risk factors with coronary artery calcium (CAC), a marker of subclinical coronary artery disease (CAD) in healthy individuals. In addition, we investigated the effects of a vegetarian, compared to a meat diet, on novel and traditional risk factors in patients with diagnosed CAD. READ MORE

  2. 2. Clinical and laboratory studies on propofol

    Author : Anders Gadegaard Jensen; Torsten Lindahl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Atelectasis; bowel function; rat neurons; cytoskeleton; cytosolic calcium; haemodynamic stability; human glial cells; leucocytes; propofol; recovery assessment; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Patients undergoing major abdominal surgery were randomly given total intravenous anaesthesia based on propofol and fentanyl, anaesthesia based on propofol, fentanyl and nitrous oxide or anaesthesia based on isoflurane and fentanyl. Postoperative atelectasis demonstrated by computed tomography of the chest was found to a similar extent and a similar decrease in arterial oxygen pressure was seen in the groups. READ MORE

  3. 3. Investigation of the origin of the coronary artery calcification process and its relationship to the atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease

    Author : George Koulaouzidis; Michael Henein; Katrine Åhlström Riklund; Jan Engvall; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coronary artery calcification; ethnicity; South Asians; Caucasians; reproducibility; aortic valve calcification; mitral valve calcification; family history of coronary artery disease; natural history; coronary artery calcium score; meta-analysis;

    Abstract : The objectives of this thesis are: a) To examine racial/ethnic differences in coronary artery calcification (CAC) and CAD, between symptomatic South Asians and Caucasians, matched for age, gender and conventional cardiovascular risk factors, b) To assess, using a meta-analysis model, the natural history of and stability of measurements of coronary artery calcium scoring (CACs) based on data collected from two large published trials: St Francis and EBEAT, c) To investigate the prevalence of coronary artery calcification in individuals with CT evidence for AVC, mitral valve calcification (MAC) or of both of them (AVC+MAC), d) To assess any potential association between premature CAD (.. 4. 4. Patient stratification and treatment effects in diseases with disturbed cardiac function

    Author : Gabriel Granåsen; Urban Wiklund; Frida Sandberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Biostatistics; Heart rate variability; Cardiac amyloidosis; hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; cluster analysis; Echocardiography; Long QT syndrome; Pediatric; Statins; Coronary artery calcium; Computer tomography; Machine learning; Predictive modeling;

    Abstract : Background: Cardiovascular disease characteristics are often measured using a combination of different measurement modalities. By combining information from these modalities using statistical modelling we can gain additional knowledge about these diseases. READ MORE

  5. 5. EVAR of AAA: Long term outcomes, disease progression and risk stratification

    Author : Mohammed Abdulrasak; Vaskulära sjukdomar - kliniska studier; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; abdominal aortic aneurysm; Endovascular aortic repair; ilio-femoral calcium score; type Ia endoleak;

    Abstract : BackgroundEndovasvular aortic repair (EVAR) is the most commonly utilised technique for the treatment of abdominal aorticaneurysms (AAA) in tertiary referral centers. Detailed long-term outcomes of this technique are relatively scarce,especially for patients presenting symptomatically with AAA. READ MORE
