  1. 6. Glycoside hydrolases from Rhodothermus marinus Modular organisation and structure-function relationships

    Author : Maher Abou-Hachem; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; calcium-binding; modular; endoglucanase; thermostable; CBM; xylanase; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The thermophilic bacterium Rhodothermus marinus produces several thermostable glycoside hydrolases. The studies presented in this thesis were performed on two enzymes, belonging to glycoside hydrolase families 10 and 12, produced by this microorganism. The family 10 xylanase, Xyn10A, is modular in architecture consisting of five domains or modules. READ MORE

  2. 7. Protein Interactions: Electrostatics and Ligand Binding

    Author : Ingemar André; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biophysics; Molekylär biofysik; secondary structure formation; protein GB1; pKa values; pH stability; NMR; electrostatic interactions; M proteins; calbindin D9k; calcium binding; cooperativity; calmodulin; calbindin D28k;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with Ca2+ binding to proteins, electrostatic interactions in and between proteins as well as inter- and intramolecular interactions. A computer program was developed to determine Ca2+ binding constants from experimental titration data of proteins. READ MORE

  3. 8. The effect of sequence truncation and amino-acid substitutions on the biophysical properties of protein S and calbindin D9k

    Author : Karin Julenius; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; surface plasmon resonance; fluorescence spectroscopy; circular dichroism spectroscopy; NMR spectroscopy; hydrophobic effect; protein stability; dimerization; cooperativity; calcium binding; EGF-module; EF-hand; calbindin D9k; protein S; synthet; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Protein S is a modular protein and a cofactor in the protein C anticoagulant system. It consists of a Gla-module, a thrombin-sensitive loop, four EGF-modules and a SHBG-like module. READ MORE

  4. 9. The EGF-like Modules of Anticoagulant Protein S. Studies of Ca2+ binding and module interactions

    Author : Yvonne Stenberg; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; enzymology; Proteins; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; calcium binding; Protein S; EGF-like module; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Abstract : Protein S functions as a cofactor to activated protein C (APC) in the degradation of factors Va and VIIIa. In plasma protein S circulates in two forms; 30-40 % circulates as free protein S molecules while the remaining 60-70 % exists in a 1:1 complex with C4b-binding protein (C4BP). Only the free form of protein S functions as a cofactor to APC. READ MORE

  5. 10. The N-terminal EGF Module of Coagulation factor IX. Studies of Calcium Binding and Module Interactions

    Author : Kristina Persson; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; coagulation FIX EGF module calcium binding interaction; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Coagulation factor IX (FIX) is a vitamin K-dependent serine protease zymogen that circulates in plasma. Defects in FIX cause the bleeding disorder hemophilia B. FIX contains a Gla module, two Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) -like modules and a serine protease region. READ MORE
