  1. 1. Calcium transport in the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas - in a changing environment

    Author : Kirsikka Sillanpää; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate changes; Ussing chambers; Calcium uptake; Sodium potassium ATPase; Calcium ATPase; Sodium calcium exchanger; Calcium channel; Hemocytes; Mantle epithelium;

    Abstract : Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, is globally one of the most important farmed bivalve species. A prominent features of the C. gigas is the thick CaCO3 shell covering the body of the animal and protecting it from the environment. READ MORE

  2. 2. Injectable calcium sulphate and calcium phosphate bone substitutes

    Author : Malin K Nilsson; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatologi; ortopedi; Kirurgi; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; resorbable; hydroxyapatite; bone substitute; calcium phosphate; injectable; calcium sulphate;

    Abstract : Two formulations of biphasic injectable bone substitutes have been developed for the treatment of bone defects and stabilisation of fragility fractures. The first formulation consists of a calcium sulphate matrix with embedded hydroxyapatite (HA) particles to provide osteoconductivity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Calcium Homeostasis After Thyroid Surgery

    Author : Pia Lindblom; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PTH-peripheral effects; hPTH- 1-34 infusion; EDTA infusion; Set-point; Vitamin D3; PTH; Calcium; Thyroid surgery; Postoperative hypocalcemia; Bone density.; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Reduced thyroid hormones;

    Abstract : Calcium homeostasis after thyroid surgery was studied during the immediate postoperative period and after one year. One day after hemithyroidectomy ionised calcium decreased whereas basal PTH did not change. EDTA stimulated maximal and total PTH secretion and set-point decreased on postoperative day 1 and normalised on day 7. READ MORE

  4. 4. Calcium metabolism and breast cancer risk

    Author : Martin Almquist; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; calcium; breast cancer; vitamin D; body mass index; menopause; parathyroid hormone;

    Abstract : Emerging evidence suggests that calcium and its regulating hormones, i.e. vitamin D and parathyroid hormone (PTH), affect breast cancer risk. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molten Salt Electrolytes for Calcium Batteries

    Author : Johanna Timhagen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Batteries; Metal anodes; Molten salt electrolytes; Calcium;

    Abstract : Batteries are in higher demand than ever before as well as increased requirements in terms of energy and power density. The desire for higher energy density has meant that electrolytes are pushed above their electrochemical stability limits and hence they decompose, but typically this is under control and a new beneficial phase is created at the electrode surface; the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI).
