  1. 1. Moisture-induced stress and distortion of wood : A numerical and experimental study of wood's drying and long-term behaviour

    Author : Sara Florisson; Sigurdur Ormarsson; Johan Vessby; Kent Persson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; analytical method; calibration; controlled climate; creep; distortion; experimental methodology; FEM; fibre orientation; mechano-sorption; moisture transport; natural climate; Norway spruce; numerical model; three-dimensional; timber beam; validation; wood; Byggteknik; Civil engineering; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Abstract : With the current advances made in three-dimensional modelling of wood, it is possible to provide an overall picture of moisture flow, and moisture-induced stress and deformations, whereas previously, experiments only provided local measurements. The main aim of the doctoral thesis is to investigate the possibilities of the developed three-dimensional numerical model to predict the behaviour of wood when simultaneously exposed to a mechanical load and a particular climate. Abstract : Traffic congestion is increasing in almost all large cities, leading to a number of negative effects such as pollution and delays. However, building new roads is not a feasible solution. Instead, the use of the existing road network has to be optimized, together with a shift towards more sustainable transport modes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Drug Analysis : Bioanalytical Method Development and Validation

    Author : Mikaela Malm; Yngve Bergqvist; Anders Colmsjö; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Analytical chemistry; African trypanosomiasis; calibration model; chiral chromatography; dried blood spots; eflornithine; evaporative light-scattering detection; HIV AIDS; lamivudine; liquid chromatography; malaria; nevirapine; piperaquine; pneumonia; solid-phase extraction; sulfadoxine; sulfamethoxazole; validation; zidovudine; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes bioanalytical methods for drug determination in biological matrixes, with drugs in focus used against diseases largely affecting low-income countries. Solid-phase extraction is used for sample cleanup, and processed samples are analyzed by liquid chromatography. READ MORE

    Abstract : Carbon-free nuclear power production can help to relieve the increasing energy demand in the world. New generation reactors with improved safety, sustainability, reliability, economy and security are being developed. Lead-cooled fast reactor (LFR) is one of them. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modelling and Validation of Industrial Measurement Systems - Aspects of Quality and Human Factors

    Author : Jenny Wirandi; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Uncertainty Analysis; Quality Index; Instrumentation technology; Mät- och instrumenteringsteknik; Traceability; Fuzzy Variable; Pulp Quality; Industrial Measurement; Human Factor; GUM; Calibration; Fibre Measurement; Measurement Science; Mätteknik;

    Abstract : Although there is a fairly large number of books and articles concerning the validation of technical measurement systems, there are only a few which take into account the whole measurement system consisting of both technical and non-technical aspects. A measurement system comprises both the measurement process and the human being who conducts the measurement. READ MORE
