  1. 21. Calcium calmodulin-dependent protein kinase signal transduction in cerebral arteries

    Author : Roya Waldsee; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CAMK; Ednothelin receptors; Calcium; gene regulation;

    Abstract : Cerebral arteries participate actively in the response that follows an episode of cerebral ischemia in man and rat. It has been shown that the vascular endothelin receptor expression is increased in stroke and organ culture. READ MORE

  2. 22. A study of the cytoplasmic domains of C-CAM isoforms : calmodulin binding and phosphorylation

    Author : Magnus Edlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : adhesion molecules; adhesion regulation; BGP; Bgp; biliary glycoprotein; Calcium; Calmodulin; CaM; CAMs; carcinoembryonic antigen gene family; C-CAM; CEA; cell adhesion; Immunoglobulin super-family; PKC; protein kinase C.;

    Abstract : C-CAM, a member of the Immunoglobulin Superfamily, was originally identified as an intercellular adhesion molecule, and can mediate cell-cell adhesion by homophilic binding. However, it also appears in high concentrations in luminal, microvillar surfaces. READ MORE

  3. 23. Regulation of Aquaporins by Proteins, Metal ions and Phosphate groups

    Author : Stefan Kreida; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aquaporin-2; aquaporin-0; calmodulin; LIP5; phosphorylation; calcium; zinc; protein-protein interactions; aquaporin regulation; trafficking; gating;

    Abstract : Aquaporins (AQPs) are membrane-bound intrinsic water channels that allow the passive diffusion of water and small solutes across cellular membranes. There are 13 highly conserved isoforms of these channels in human, which differ in specificity, regulation and localisation in cells and tissues. READ MORE

  4. 24. Transducer properties of a mechanoreceptor : an electrophysiological and pharmacological study of the crayfish stretch receptor

    Author : Jiahui Lin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : stretch receptor; Na channels; K channels; local anesthetics; calmodulin antagonist; patch clamp; voltage clamp;

    Abstract : The abdominal stretch receptor organ of the crayfish, an analog to the human muscle spindle, contains one slowly adapting (SA) and one rapidly adapting (RA) receptor neuron. The general aims of this project were to elucidate, in the SA and RA neurons, the participation of voltagegated Na+ and K+ channels in overall transducer process and adaptation, and to study possible blocking agents specific to mechanosensitive (MS) channels. 5. 25. Cell cycle and differentiation in Giardia Lamblia

    Author : David S Reiner; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Giardia lamblia is the major cause of waterborne diarrhea worldwide. Giardiasis is initiated by ingestion of cysts, which after passing through the stomach are triggered to excyst. Excystation, or awakening from dormancy, is central to successful colonization of the host. READ MORE
