  1. 1. Avian antibodies applied in particle enhanced turbidimetric immunoassay : Developement of serum/plasma calprotectin immunoassay and its clinical performance as a marker for bacterial infections

    Author : Tom Nilsen; Anders Larsson; Bjørn Steen Skålhegg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Sepsis; avian antibodies; calprotectin antigen; particle enhanced turbidimetric immunoassay.; Clinical Chemistry; Klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Calprotectin is a cytosolic protein in the granulocytes, consisting of S100A8 and S100A9. On the site of inflammation, the neutrophils release the cytosol as an inflammatory response. The circulating calprotectin concentration increases and can therefore be used as marker for neutrophil activation and inflammation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fecal calprotectin in children with special reference to inflammatory bowel disease

    Author : Ulrika Lorentzon Fagerberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Biological markers; calcium-binding proteins; Leukocyte L1 Antigen Complex; calprotectin; acute- phase proteins; serum amyloid A; C-reactive protein; ELISA; feces; blood; children; adolescent; colitis; inflammatory bowel disease; colonoscopy; reference values; diagnosis.;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to study the clinical usefulness of fecal calprotectin as a noninvasive marker of colonic inflammation in children with suspected or confirmed chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Calprotectin, a calcium-binding protein predominantly expressed in neutrophils, is stable in feces for several days, and can be measured by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. READ MORE

  3. 3. The IL-23 axis and innate immunity in the airways

    Author : Marit Stockfelt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IL-23; airways;

    Abstract : The Interleukin-23 (IL-23) axis is a communication system that integrates innate and adaptive immunity. When triggered by microbial stimuli, antigen presenting cells can secrete the cytokine IL-23, leading to the production of IL-17 and IL-22. READ MORE

  4. 4. Gut Manifestations in an Experimental Model of Multiple Sclerosis

    Author : Mehrnaz Nouri; Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an immune-mediated demyelinating and neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system (CNS). Neuroinflammatory processes in MS are believed to lead to damage and leakage in the blood-brain barrier that protects the CNS and regulates the trafficking of soluble mediators and leukocytes.
