  1. 1. Prognostic markers in acute myeloid leukemia : A candidate gene approach

    Author : Ingrid Jakobsen; Kourosh Lotfi; Henrik Gréen; Anna Fyrberg; Christian Thiede; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The standard treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) consists of induction chemotherapy, most commonly daunorubicin together with the nucleoside analogue cytarabine (Ara-C), followed by consolidation chemotherapy and in selected cases allogenic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT). Despite a high initial response rate, a considerable proportion of all AML cases eventually suffer from relapse and the five-year overall survival rate in patients >60 years is only around 15%. 2. 2. Genetic Analysis of Quantitative Traits Using Domestic Animals : A Candidate Gene and Genome Scanning Approach

    Author : Hee-Bok Park; Leif Andersson; Stefan Marklund; Robert Fredricksson; Holger Luthman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Domestication; horse; pig; chicken; quantitative traits; candidate gene; genome scan; PRKAG3; MC4R; selection experiment; growth; correlated response; metabolic disorders; Quantitative Trait Loci; linkage; single nucleotide polymorphisms; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : Domestication has led to genetic changes that affect quantitative traits in farm animals. Both candidate gene analysis using association tests and genome scans based on linkage analysis have been performed to understand the molecular basis underlying quantitative genetic variation in horses, pigs and chickens. 3. 3. Genetic studies on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus : A fine mapping and candidate gene approach

    Author : Veronica Magnusson; Jerry Lanchbury; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; Systemic Lupus Erythematosus; complex disease; linkage analysis; candidate gene; association studies; Genetik; Genetics; Genetik; medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Abstract : Linkage in the 2q37 region was evaluated using microsatellite markers in multi-case families from Sweden, Iceland and Norway. Both the two-point and the multipoint linkage analysis show highly significant LOD scores (Z=4.51 and 6.03, respectively). READ MORE

  4. 4. Genetic Variability in Human Bone Phenotypes : The Vitamin D Receptor Gene and the Estrogen Receptor-α Cofactor RIZ Gene

    Author : Elin Grundberg; Andreas Kindmark; Östen Ljunggren; Helena Brändström; André G. Uitterlinden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medicine; Bone mineral density; candidate gene approach; polymorphism; the vitamin D receptor; the estrogen receptor α; RIZ1; cofactor; allelic imbalance; Medicin;

    Abstract : Important candidate genes to human bone phenotypes are those involved in the regulation of hormonal action, such as the vitamin D receptor (VDR) and the estrogen receptor-α (ERα) genes and their cofactors. RIZ1 is a specific ERα cofactor proved to strongly enhance the function of the ERα. READ MORE

  5. 5. Adipose tissue gene expression & candidate genes for obesity

    Author : Lovisa Johansson; Diabetes - klinisk obesitasforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Insulin resistance; Obesity; Adipose tissue; Adiponutrin; PNPLA; PPARGC1A; Gene expression; Case-control association study; Microarray; Genotyping; Population-based study;

    Abstract : Obesity results from an interaction between genetic and environmental factors and is a growing health problem associated with development of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. This thesis has focused on investigating the genetic contribution in obesity and insulin resistance by both candidate and global gene approaches with focus on the adipose tissue. READ MORE
