1. Cannabinoids as modulators of cancer cell viability, neuronal differentiation, and embryonal development
Abstract : Cannabinoids (CBs) are compounds that activate the CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB receptors mediate many different physiological functions, and cannabinoids have been reported to decrease tumor cell viability, proliferation, migration, as well as to modulate metastasis. READ MORE

2. Cannabinoids as neuroprotective agents : a mechanistic study
Abstract : Glucose and oxygen supply to the brain is critical for its proper function and when it is restricted as during a stroke, neurons and glial cells quickly become necrotic leading to structural damage as well as functional impairment and even death. To date there are few effective therapies that inhibit the neurodegenerative process and improves the outcome for the affected individual. READ MORE

4. Vasodilator actions of EDHF and anandamide
Abstract : Vasodilator responses to endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) and anandamide in isolated arteries were investigated. A combination of the potassium channel blockers charybdotoxin and apamin inhibits EDHF-mediated relaxations. READ MORE

5. Bioactive Lipids in Nociception
Abstract : This thesis focuses on bioactive lipids as (1) metabolites of the widely used antipyretic and analgesic drug acetaminophen and (2) activators of the ion channel TRPV1, an important downstream target for inflammatory mediators, in the phospholipase C (PLC)/TRPV1 signaling pathway. Evidence is presented for a fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH)-dependent fatty acid conjugation of p-aminophenol, a known acetaminophen metabolite, to form the potent TRPV1 activator AM404 in the central nervous system.
