  1. 1. The Hydrodynamics of Waterjet/Hull Interaction

    Author : Arash Eslamdoost; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; trim angle; vena-contracta; transom clearance; net thrust; waterjet hull interaction; waterjet propulsion; capture area; exit drag; non-linear free-surface; intake drag; gross thrust; sinkage; streamtube; RANS; thrust deduction; potential flow; VOF;

    Abstract : The objective of the present investigation is to explore the physics behind the waterjet/hull interaction, and in particular the negative thrust deduction often reported in the semi-planing speed range. Another objective is to propose a validated numerical technique for computing the hydrodynamics of waterjet-driven hulls. READ MORE

  2. 2. Group A Streptococci; Epidemiology and Genetics of Antibiotic Resistance

    Author : Aftab Jasir; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; typing; epidemiology; M protein; emm gene; erythromycin; tetracycline; macrolides; streptococci; antibiotics; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; virology; bacteriology;

    Abstract : Group A streptococci (GAS) cause throat and skin infections, severe invasive diseases as well as the non-suppurative complications acute rheumatic fever and glomerulonephritis. GAS have retained susceptibility to betalactam drugs, but resistance to alternative antibiotics is of concern. READ MORE

  3. 3. Human papillomavirus testing and its application in cervical cancer prevention

    Author : Anna Söderlund Strand; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : SUMMARY Because of the strong causal relationship between persistent infections of human papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and cancer, HPVtesting has been proposed for improvement of cervical screening programs, including triaging and follow-up after treatment for CIN. We developed two new methods for HPV-testing with genotyping: A high-throughput HPV genotyping method that uses mass spectrometry for detection of the products of type-specific mass extend reactions, and a method with particularly sensitive detection of a broad spectrum of HPV-types, also in the case of multiple infections, that uses type-specific probes coupled to fluorescent beads for detection on the Luminex platform. 4. 4. Tumor Cell Targeting of Stabilized Liposome Conjugates : Experimental studies using boronated DNA-binding agents

    Author : Erika Bohl Kullberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicine; Liposome; EGF; HER-2; Targeting; boron; Biomedicin; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; Biomedical Radiation Science; biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : To further develop cancer therapy, targeted delivery of cell killing agents directly to tumor cells is an interesting approach. This thesis describes the development of PEG-stabilized liposome conjugates targeting either epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) using its natural ligand EGF, or human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2) using the antibody trastuzumab. 5. 5. Development of a robust and rapid microfluidics-based antibiotic susceptibility test : From prototype to clinical implementation

    Author : Christer Malmberg; Johan Kreuger; Thomas Tängdén; Till Bachmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lab-on-a-chip; rapid antibiotic susceptibility testing; AST; sepsis; microfluidics; blood culture; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Even though bacteria normally are rapidly cleared from the blood by the immune system, a blood stream infection may arise, in turn possibly leading to sepsis and septic shock. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition, where the inflammatory response to infection targets tissues and organs. READ MORE
