1. A Methodology for the Design of Cost Effective Hybrid Vehicles
Abstract : This thesis deals with system design of cost effective hybrid and fuel cell vehicles. Today (2004) the major disadvantages of these vehicles are increased complexity and component costs. However, the decrease in cost of electrical components and the environmental concern make these vehicles more and more competitive. READ MORE

2. Active Vibration Control of Multibody Systems : Application to Automotive Design
Abstract : Active vibration control to reduce vibrations and structure borne noise is considered using a powerful multi-disciplinary virtual design environment which enables control system design to be considered as an integral part of the overall vehicle design. The main application studied is active automotive engine vibration isolation where, first, the potential of large frequency band multi-input multi-output H2 feedback control is considered. READ MORE

3. Power dissipation in car tyres
Abstract : Traffic is a major source of green house gases. The transport field stands for 32 % of the energy consumption and 28 % of the total CO2 emissions, where road transports alone causes 84 % of these figures. READ MORE

4. Silicon carbide field-effect devices studied as gas sensors for exhaust gas monitoring
Abstract : Metal-insulator-silicon carbide (MIS) structures have been studied as gas sensors. We have investigated how the sensors detect gases, how fast they do that, and how they could be used for exhaust gas monitoring. We have prepared simple field-effect devices, MIS-capacitors and Schottky diodes, on silicon carbide with platinum gates. 5. The HCCI Engine – High Load Performance and Control Aspects
Abstract : Current combustion engines provide excellent performance for vehicle propulsion and power generation. However, recent demands from society ask for higher efficiencies and lower emissions. These requirements are hard to meet with current technology and call for new solutions. READ MORE
