1. Large Volume Injection and Hyphenated Techniques for Gas Chromatographic Determination of PBDEs and Carbazoles in Air
Abstract : This thesis is based on studies in which the suitability of various gas chromatography (GC) injection techniques was examined for the determination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and carbazoles, two groups of compounds that are thermally labile and/or have high boiling-points. For such substances, it is essential to introduce the samples into the GC system in an appropriate way to avoid degradation and other potential problems. READ MORE

2. Bisindoles : synthesis and reactions
Abstract : In this thesis, synthesis of various bisindoles have beendeveloped.2,3-Bis-(3-indolyl) succinic acid derivatives wereobtained via iodine promoted coupling of the trianion ofindole-3-acetic acid (IAA) or from the dianion of themethylester of IAA. These compounds were converted to2,3-bis(3-indolyl) maleimides (arcyriarubin analogues) by DDQoxidation. READ MORE

3. Synthesis of indolocarbazoles, bisindoles and related sulfur containing systems
Abstract : This thesis is focussed mainly on the synthesis and reactions of various indolocarbazoles, bisindoles and related sulfur containing systems, all possessing structural features present in many biologically active, natural or synthetic compounds. In the first part, synthetic routes towards the planar, pentacyclic ring systems of indolo[2,3-c]earbazole and indolo[3,2-a]carbazole are described. READ MORE

4. Synthesis of indoles, bisindoles and indolocarbazoles : high affinity aryl hydrocarbon receptor ligands
Abstract : This thesis deals with the synthesis and reactions of indoles, bisindoles, indolocarbazoles and their derivatives. New methods for ring formation of planar, heterocyclic quinones, with the indolo[3,2b]carbazole or indolo[2,3-b]carbazole structures are described. READ MORE

5. Regulation of dioxin receptor function by procarcinogenic food-derived heterocyclic amines and indolocarbazoles
Abstract : Cooking of protein-rich food generates procarcinogenic heterocyclic aromatic amines(HCA) in amounts that range in the part per billion levels. The capacity of the two most prevalent HCA, PhIP and MelQx, to induce genetic alterations in vivo was determined using a short-term liver carcinogenesis model (RH-model) in rat. READ MORE
