  1. 16. New Tools for Analysis of Wood and Pulp Components - Application of MALDI-TOF Mass Spectroscopy and Capillary Zone Electrophoresis

    Author : Anna Jacobs; KTH; []
    Keywords : Capillary zone electrophoresis; carbohydrate composition; degree of acetylation; degree of polymerization; enzymatic hydrolysis; hardwood; hemicellulose; hexenuronic acid; lignin; MALDI-TOF mass spectroscopy; molar mass; molar mass distribution; olig;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE),matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight massspectroscopy (MALDI-MS) and size-exclusion chromatography incombination with off-line MALDI-MS (SEC/MALDI-MS) have beenapplied successfully to the analysis of wood and pulpcomponents.The carbohydrate compositions of pulp and holocellulosesamples, as well as of isolated hemicellulose preparations,were determined employing enzymatic hydrolysis and subsequentanalysis of the saccharides released by CZE. 2. 17. Carbohydrate and metabonomic studies by NMR spectroscopy

    Author : Gustav Nestor; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : NMR spectroscopy can be used to investigate organic and biomolecular structures, both as pure compounds and in complex mixtures. In this thesis NMR spectroscopy was used for carbohydrate and metabonomic studies. READ MORE

  3. 18. Skeletal muscle metabolism in patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease : A study of carbohydrate and fat metabolism

    Author : Per Jacobsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : In chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) deterioration of skeletal muscle metabolism is reported in both respiratory and non-respiratory muscles. This deterioration may contribute to both the development of respiratory failure and general disability often seen in severe COPD patients. READ MORE

  4. 19. Shedding light on glycosylation : Analysis of complex carbohydrates using an affinity biosensor

    Author : Mathias Liljeblad; Bengt Danielsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The main objective during the work described in this thesis has been to develop assays for stodies of complex carbohydrates in a clinical context. Complex carbohydrates, such as free or protein linked oligosaccharides, have been shown to have important biological functions. READ MORE

  5. 20. Computer-Assisted Carbohydrate Structural Studies and Drug Discovery

    Author : Magnus Lundborg; Göran Widmalm; Hans-Christian Siebert; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbohydrates; molecular docking; molecular dynamics simulation; fragment-based virtual screening; NMR spectroscopy; computer-aided drug design; computer-aided structure elucidation; glycosyltransferases; Escherichia coli; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : Carbohydrates are abundant in nature and have functions ranging from energy storage to acting as structural components. Analysis of carbohydrate structures is important and can be used for, for instance, clinical diagnosis of diseases as well as in bacterial studies. The complexity of glycans makes it difficult to determine their structures. READ MORE
