  1. 21. Development of Electroacoustic Sensors for Biomolecular Interaction Analysis

    Author : Henrik Anderson; Ilia Katardjiev; Björn Ingemarsson; Inger Vikholm-Lundin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biosensor; protein interactions; kinetics; affinity; QCM; quartz crystal microbalance; piezoelectric resonators; dissipation; motional resistance; Bioanalytical engineering; Bioanalytisk teknik; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot mikrosystemteknik; Engineering Science with specialization in Microsystems Technology;

    Abstract : Biomolecular interaction analysis to determine the kinetics and affinity between interacting partners is important for the fundamental understanding of biology, as well as for the development of new pharmaceutical substances. A quartz crystal microbalance instrument suitable for kinetics and affinity analyses of interaction events was developed. READ MORE

  2. 22. Improving the biocatalyst. Engineering of fungal oxidoreductases and thin-film electrodes for improvement of membraneless biofuel cells and carbohydrate biosensors

    Author : Roberto Ortiz; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cellobiose dehydrogenase; pyranose dehydrogenase; biosensor; enzymatic biofuel cell; carbon nanotubes; gold nanoparticles; direct electron transfer; flow-injection analysis; diazonium salts; self-assembled monolayers;

    Abstract : This thesis presents investigations for the improvement of electrical contact and catalytical properties of two fungal redox enzymes, cellobiose dehydrogenase (CDH) and pyranose dehydrogenase (PDH), with electrodes and the use of the prepared electrodes as carbohydrate biosensors and in enzymatic biofuel cells. The performance of enzyme modified electrodes can be improved in two ways, by modifying the bioelement or by modifying the electrode. READ MORE

  3. 23. A beta-phosphoglucomutase in carbohydrate metabolism of Lactococcus lactis

    Author : Ny Qian; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; gene regulation; beta-phosphoglucomutase; maltose metabolism; lactate; metabolic engineering; alpha-phosphoglucomutase; Lactococcus lactis; Microbiology; virology; bacteriology; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Phosphoglucomutase (PGM) catalyzes the reversible conversion of glucose 1-phosphate to glucose 6-phosphate. Two distinct forms of PGM have been purifed and charactierized in Lactococcus lactis growing on maltose: one specific for the alpha-isomer, and the other specific for the beta-isomer of glucose 1-phosphate. 4. 24. Genetics of the carbohydrate-deficient glycoprotein syndrome type Ia

    Author : Cecilia Bjursell; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CDG Ia; PMM2; chromosome 16; linkage; linkage disequilibrium; prenatal diagnosis;

    Abstract : In recent years, a revolution in the development of new techniques have made it possible to perform genetic studies of inherited disorders without prior knowledge about the gene product or the function of the gene. The techniques include linkage studies, allelic association studies, physical mapping and the sequencing of candidate genes for finding disease causing mutations. READ MORE

  5. 25. Photochemical Ligation Techniques for Carbohydrate Biosensors and Protein Interaction Studies

    Author : Oscar Norberg; Olof Ramström; Stéphane Vincent; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbohydrates; Biosensors; CuAAC; Photochemistry; Thiol-ene yne; Perfluorophenylazide PFPA ; Lectins; Molecular recognition; Quartz crystal microbalance QCM ; Surface plasmon resonance SPR ;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the development of surface ligation techniques for the preparation of carbohydrate biosensors. Several methodologies were developed based on efficient photochemical insertion reactions which quickly functionalize polymeric materials, with either carbohydrates or functional groups such as alkynes or alkenes.
