1. Efficient carbohydrate synthesis by controlled inversion strategies
Abstract : The Lattrell-Dax method of nitrite-mediated substitution of carbohydrate triflates is an efficient method to generate structures of inverse configuration. In this study it has been demonstrated that a neighboring equatorial ester group plays a highly important role in this carbohydrate epimerization reaction, inducing the formation of inversion compounds in good yields. 2. Structural and functional investigation of underexplored carbohydrate-active enzyme families
Abstract : The known consequences of the current fossil-based economy require a transition towards a bio-based economy. Development of biorefineries in which plant biomass can be utilized as a renewable source of energy and building blocks to produce both commodities and high-value products, is a key step in this transition. 3. Lignin-carbohydrate complexes: Model compounds synthesis
Abstract : In lignocellulose there is a recalcitrant interaction by covalent and non-covalent bonds called the lignin-carbohydrate complex. This interaction has been the subject of studies trying to unveil its chemical structure, to understand the mechanims involved in its formation and to determine its influence on practical applications such as the process of turning biomass into ethanol. 4. Efficient Carbohydrate Synthesis By Intra- and Supramolecular Control
Abstract : The Lattrell-Dax method of nitrite-mediated substitution of carbohydrate triflates is an efficient method to generate structures of inverse configuration. In this study, the effects of the neighboring group on the Lattrell-Dax inversion were explored. READ MORE

5. Design of enzymatic systems for the modification of cellulose fiber surfaces
Abstract : This thesis describes the design of enzymatic systems forthe modification of cellulose fiber surfaces. A single-enzymeapproach employed a conjugate between theNeocallimastix patriciarumCel6A cellulose-bindingmodule and lipase B fromCandida antarctica(CBM-CALB) to enhance theaccessibility of the enzyme to the target hydroxyl groups.
