  1. 1. A beta-phosphoglucomutase in carbohydrate metabolism of Lactococcus lactis

    Author : Ny Qian; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; gene regulation; beta-phosphoglucomutase; maltose metabolism; lactate; metabolic engineering; alpha-phosphoglucomutase; Lactococcus lactis; Microbiology; virology; bacteriology; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Phosphoglucomutase (PGM) catalyzes the reversible conversion of glucose 1-phosphate to glucose 6-phosphate. Two distinct forms of PGM have been purifed and charactierized in Lactococcus lactis growing on maltose: one specific for the alpha-isomer, and the other specific for the beta-isomer of glucose 1-phosphate. 2. 2. Skeletal muscle metabolism in patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease : A study of carbohydrate and fat metabolism

    Author : Per Jacobsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : In chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) deterioration of skeletal muscle metabolism is reported in both respiratory and non-respiratory muscles. This deterioration may contribute to both the development of respiratory failure and general disability often seen in severe COPD patients. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mannan-hydrolysis by hemicellulases: enzyme-polysaccharide interaction of a modular beta-mannanase

    Author : Per Hägglund; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metabolism; Biochemistry; hemicellulase; beta-mannanase; carbohydrate-binding modules; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Abstract : The enzymatic degradation of plant polysaccharides is a process of fundamental importance in nature which involves a wide range of enzymes. In this work, the structure and function of hemicellulose-degrading enzymes was investigated. The focus was on a beta-mannanase (TrMan5A) produced by the filamentous fungus Trichoderma reesei. 4. 4. Homopolysaccharide metabolism in Lactobacillus reuteri and Pediococcus parvulus

    Author : Emma Årsköld; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; virology; bacteriology; Carbohydrate metabolism; Exopolysaccharides; Lactic acid bacteria; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; mycology; Microbiology;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the central carbohydrate metabolism and exopolysaccharide (EPS) formation in two different lactic acid bacteria (LAB): Lactobacillus reuteri and Pediococcus parvulus. LAB are traditionally used as starter cultures in the food industry. In general, LAB harbours one glycolytic pathway converting carbohydrates into lactic acid. READ MORE

  5. 5. Gene regulation of UDP-glucose synthesis and metabolism in plants

    Author : Henrik Johansson; Pierdomenica Perata; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; antisense; Arabidopsis thaliana; carbohydrate; hybrid aspen; photosynthesis; poplar; sugar; UDP-glucose; UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase; UDP-glucose dehydrogenase; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Photosynthesis captures light from the sun and converts it into carbohydrates, which are utilised by almost all living organisms. The conversion between the different forms of carbohydrates is the basis to form almost all biological molecules. READ MORE
