1. Fuel Cells and Biogas
Abstract : This thesis concerns biogas-operated fuel cells. Fuel cell technology may contribute to more efficient energy use, reduce emissions and also perhaps revolutionize current energy systems. The technology is, however, still immature and has not yet been implemented as dominant in any application or niche market. READ MORE

2. Lipase-Catalysed Lipid Modifications in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide
Abstract : The production of ethyl esters (EE) from ethanol and cod-liver oil by an immobilised lipase in supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2) is described. This reaction results in a complex mixture of lipid components consisting of triglycerides, diglycerides, monoglycerides and ethyl esters. READ MORE

3. Porous Cerium Dioxide for Catalytic Applications
Abstract : Mesoporous cerium dioxide with high crystallinity has been synthesized and studied by TEM, SEM, nitrogen adsorption, PXRD, AFM, and SAXS. The catalytic properties of the materials have been investigated The results of the catalysis experiments were correlated with high resolution TEM investigations of the corresponding material, and it was found that the exposed crystallographic facets play an important role in the conversion of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide. 4. Atomic Scale Modelling in Photoelectrocatalysis : Towards the Development of Efficient Materials for Solar Fuel Production
Abstract : Using sunlight to produce valuable chemicals has been pointed out as an interesting alternative to deal with the well-known environmental problem related to the use of fossil fuels for energy generation. Thus, it is crucial for this field the development of novel photocatalysts that could drive the uphill reactions with high efficiency while presenting low price and toxicity. READ MORE

5. Design and Operation of a 10 kWth Chemical-Looping Combustor for Solid Fuels
Abstract : Chemical-looping combustion (CLC) is a new fuel conversion technology with inherent CO2 capture. In this process, the fuel and the combustion air are never mixed and the oxygen is transferred to the fuel via an oxygen carrier in the form of a metal oxide circulating between two reactors, e.g. READ MORE
