11. Single-photon multiple ionisation of atoms and molecules investigated by coincidence spectroscopy : Site-specific effects in acetaldehyde and carbon dioxide
Abstract : In this thesis, multiple ionisation processes of free atoms and molecules upon single photon absorption are studied by means of a versatile multi-electron-ion coincidence spectroscopy method based on a magnetic bottle, primarily in combination with synchrotron radiation. The latter offered the possibility to access not only valence but also core levels, revealing processes, which promote the target systems into different charge states. READ MORE

12. Air-Sea Fluxes of CO2 : Analysis Methods and Impact on Carbon Budget
Abstract : Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an important greenhouse gas, and the atmospheric concentration of CO2 has increased by more than 100 ppm since prior to the industrial revolution. The global oceans are considered an important sink of atmospheric CO2, since approximately one third of the anthropogenic emissions are absorbed by the oceans. READ MORE

13. Carbon Dioxide Supersaturation in Lakes – Causes, Consequences and Sensitivity to Climate Change
Abstract : The global carbon cycle is intimately linked with the earth’s climate system. Knowledge about carbon cycling in the biosphere is therefore crucial for predictions of climate change. READ MORE

14. Ammonia as an Absorbent of Carbon Dioxide in Post-Combustion Capture - an Experimental, Technical and Economic Process Evaluation
Abstract : Carbon capture and storage is vital to facilitating the transition from our current fossil fuel-based energy system to a sustainable energy system. The concept of post-combustion capture is based on the selective chemical absorption of carbon dioxide (CO2). READ MORE

15. The role of freshwater phytoplankton in the global carbon cycle
Abstract : Water flowing through the landscape transports chemical substances including carbon. Along the way from upland soils to the ocean, carbon is transformed from organic carbon into inorganic carbon and vice versa. One such carbon transformation process is the uptake of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the water phase by phytoplankton. READ MORE
