  1. 6. Circumventing Spectrum Mismatch - Studies of Triplet-Triplet Annihilation Upconversion, Singlet Fission and Two-Photon Absorption in Photoactive Materials

    Author : Deise Fernanda Barbosa de Mattos; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; singlet fission; solar energy conversion; two-photon absorption; energy transfer; triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion; spectroscopy.; carbon nitride quantum dots; self-assembly gels; photochemistry;

    Abstract : Solar energy stands out for its potential to supply the global energy demand by itself. Therefore, it is of great value to expand the use of processes that involve light such as conversion to electricity or fuels, or to drive high-energy reactions. READ MORE

  2. 7. Application of SiGe(C) in high performance MOSFETs and infrared detectors

    Author : Mohammadreza Kolahdouz Esfahani; Henry Radamson; Ya-Hong Xie; KTH; []

    Abstract : Epitaxially grown SiGe(C) materials have a great importance for many device applications. In these applications, (strained or relaxed) SiGe(C) layers are grown either selectively on the active areas, or on the entire wafer. READ MORE

  3. 8. Trees to supercapacitors: green energy storage for sustainable future

    Author : Bony Thomas; Kristiina Oksman; Mohini Sain; Milo Shaffer; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Trä och bionanokompositer; Wood and Bionanocomposites;

    Abstract : Currently the world is transitioning to a fossil free and circular economy-based development to achieve the environmental and climate objectives along with the sustainable development goals. To achieve this target, efficient use of resource materials is important, which can increase the lifetime and economic value of the resources while decreasing both the extraction of new raw materials and landfill waste. 4. 9. Microwave-assisted transformations of lignin for value-added material applications

    Author : Jenevieve G. Yao; Minna Hakkarainen; Karin Odelius; Monika Österberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : lignin; microwave-assisted processes; organosolv fractionation; esterification; fused filament fabrication; digital light processing; lignin; mikrovågsassisterade strategier; organosolv-fraktionering; förestring; additiv tillverkning; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : The chemical diversity and structural complexity of lignin, an abundant biopolymer found in vascular plants, present a multitude of opportunities for the modification and fine-tuning of its properties to suit downstream demands. In this thesis, microwave-assisted strategies were explored as efficient and environment-friendly pathways for lignin valorization towards value-added material applications. READ MORE

  5. 10. Carbothermal synthesis of nano-structured metal, carbides and nitrides, using solution processed precursors; from precursor to product

    Author : Sarmad Naim Katea; Gunnar Westin; Hilmar Vidarsson; Sanjay Mathur; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Solution-based chemical processing; sol-gel; ceramic powders; transition metal carbides and nitrides; sintering; nickel binder; mechanical properties; Chemistry with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes how solution chemical based carbothermal syntheses can be used for the synthesis of nanostructured zirconium carbide and nitride nanophase powders as well as a nickel-metal coating on NbC for use as a sintering agent. The focus is on the development of novel synthesis routes using atomic or small nanoscale level mixing of the metal oxide and carbon source in the starting precursors, enabling the use of lower synthesis temperatures and non-agglomerated nanosized powders.
