6. Studies of carbon nanomaterials based on fullerenes and carbon nanotubes
Abstract : Materials based on fullerenes and carbon nanotubes are very much different from most “traditional” materials, primarily because they are built from nanosized molecules with highly symmetry-dependent properties. Being the subject of a very active research field over the last twenty years, carbon nanostructures proved to be indeed extraordinary. READ MORE

7. Functional and Modular As=C and P=C Group Motifs
Abstract : This work focuses on the design, synthesis, characterization, and application projections of low-coordinated heavy pnictogen-containing (described by the generic letter E, hence E=C) phosphaalkenes (P=C) and arsaalkenes (As=C), with emphasis on the E=C group motifs. The work aims to understand their functional and modular character, reactivity, and potential applications by stabilizing, isolating, and characterizing these species in low-coordination environments. 8. Fabrication and Functionalization of Graphene and Other Carbon Nanomaterials in Solution
Abstract : In the last decades several new nanostructures of carbon have been discovered, including carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and the recently discovered 2-dimensional graphene. These new materials exhibit extraordinary and unique properties—making them extremely interesting both for fundamental science and for future applications. READ MORE

9. Functionalization and Characterization of Carbon Based Nanomaterials for Electronics, Composite and Biomedical Applications
Abstract : Surface functionalization of nanomaterials to combine different material’s properties together opens up unlimited possibilities for both academic research and industrial applications. In this thesis, flexible and scalable chemical approaches to functionalize carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) are developed for different applications, including electronics, composite and biomedical applications. 10. Cellulose derived carbon dots : From synthesis to evaluation as multifunctional building blocks in biomedical scaffolds
Abstract : The implementation of biobased and biodegradable polymeric materials in biomedical applications is often coupled with issues related to their insufficient mechanical properties or limited bioactivity. In this thesis, a perspective on valorization of biomass is presented, demonstrating the transformation of cellulose into biobased carbon nanomaterials with the potential to serve as multifunctional property enhancers in polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffold materials for tissue engineering.
