  1. 1. Development and Evaluation of Methods in Source Apportionment of the Carbonaceous Aerosol

    Author : Johan Martinsson; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbonaceous aerosol; organic aerosol; aerosol particles; source apportionment; air pollution;

    Abstract : Carbonaceous aerosols are known to affect human health negatively and to affect the climate of Earth. As specific types of aerosols originate from specific sources, it is important to know the amount of aerosols emitted from each source. Aerosol source apportionment is an important tool in mitigating air pollution and improving air quality. READ MORE

  2. 2. Characteristics of fresh and aged carbonaceous aerosol from anthropogenic combustion sources

    Author : Erik Nordin; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Aerosol; biomass combustion; gasoline vehicle exhaust; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; secondary organic aerosol; soot; mass-mobility relationship; emissions; toxicity;

    Abstract : Emissions from anthropogenic combustion sources, such as light duty vehicles and small scale biomass combustion, contribute significantly to ambient aerosol particle concentrations both on local and global scales. These emissions have controlling impacts on public health and global climate. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies of Volcanic Influence on Aerosols, Clouds and Climate

    Author : Johan Friberg; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lowermost stratosphere; volcanic aerosol; upper troposphere; sulfurous aerosol; carbonaceous aerosol; ion beam analysis; volcanism; indirect effect; radiative forcing; direct effect; Stratosphere; Fysicumarkivet A:2016:Friberg;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the influence of volcanism on the compositions of the aerosols in the upper troposphere (UT) and lowermost stratosphere (LMS), and their direct and indirect impact on climate. Aerosol data were obtained by aircraft-borne sampling, using the CARIBIC (Civil Aircraft for the Regular Investigation of the Atmosphere Based on an Instrument Container) platform, and laboratory-based ion beam analysis of aerosol samples at the Lund Ion Beam Analysis Facility (LIBAF). 4. 4. Volcanic Aerosols in the Upper Troposphere and Stratosphere – Aircraft- and Satellite-Based Observations

    Author : Sandra Andersson; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbonaceous aerosol; sulphate; ash; volcanic particles; upper troposphere; lowermost stratosphere; Stratospheric aerosol; volcanism; aerosol optical depth; radiative forcing; Fysicumarkivet A:2015:Andersson;

    Abstract : Volcanic eruptions are the largest source of variability in the stratospheric particle concentration as they inject SO2 that is subsequently converted into sulphate particles. No major perturbation of the stratospheric aerosol load has been observed since the large eruption of Pinatubo in 1991, but several moderate eruptions after 2000 have caused deviations from stratospheric background conditions. 5. 5. Carbonaceous Aerosol in Europe - out of the woods and into the blue?

    Author : Jan Robert Bergström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic aerosol; elemental carbon; chemical transport modelling; residential wood combustion; biotic stress induced emissions; source apportionment; EMEP MSC-W model;

    Abstract : Particulate matter (PM) in the atmosphere influences weather and climate and may have important health impacts. Regional scale chemical transport modelling aims to describe the composition of particulate matter, to track different sources, estimate their relative importance, and to give realistic predictions of responses to changes in emissions and atmospheric conditions.
