  1. 1. Peat Coated with Iron Oxides : Purification of Metal(loid)-Contaminated Water and Treatment of the Spent Adsorbent

    Author : Alfreda Kasiuliene; Jurate Kumpiene; Ivan Carabante; Prosun Bhattacharya; Luke Beesly; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; iron-peat; adsorption; arsenic; metals; combustion; hydrothermal carbonisation; landfilling; Avfallsteknik; Waste Science and Technology;

    Abstract : In Sweden due to the industrial activities, such as wood impregnation, multiple point sources of arsenic (As) contamination in soil and water bodies are scattered over the country. Metals, such as chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), nickel (Ni), cadmium (Cd) or zinc (Zn) at varying concentrations are usually present as well. READ MORE

  2. 2. Changes of Ca and Mg silicate minerals induced by grinding and interaction with water

    Author : Elena Kalinkina; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry of Interfaces; Gränsytors kemi;

    Abstract : FT-IR spectroscopy, powder XRD, 29Si MAS-NMR, 13C CP/1H-decoupling MAS-NMR, BET surface area and CO2-content measurements have been used to study the processes which occur during dry grinding of Ca and Mg silicate minerals: diopside, enstatite, åkermanite, and wollastonite. In the course of grinding alongside to hydration and amorphisation considerable sorption of atmospheric CO2 by ground minerals occur. READ MORE

  3. 3. Carbon Fibres from Kraft Lignin

    Author : Ida Norberg; Monica Ek; Elisabeth Sjöholm; Göran Gellerstedt; Falk Liebner; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Kraft lignin has a high potential for use in more valuable applications than its current use as fuel in pulp mills and integrated pulp and paper mills. The possibility of using kraft lignin, a green material with a carbon content of more than 60 %, for the manufacturing of carbon fibres was investigated in this thesis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Tracking Emissions Reductions and Energy Efficiency in the Steel Industry

    Author : Johannes Morfeldt; Semida Silveira; Wolfgang Eichhammer; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; energy efficiency; greenhouse gas emissions reductions; indicators; iron and steel industry; systems analysis; energieffektivitet; växthusgasutsläppsminskning; indikatorer; järn- och stålbranschen; systemanalys; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : The iron and steel industry has become increasingly globalised. Market conditions are also changing and de-carbonisation of production is challenging.The objective of this thesis is to assess how energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions reductions can be promoted and effectively monitored in the steel industry.
