  1. 11. Cytochrome P-450 in Drosophila melanogaster : activity, genetic variation and regulation

    Author : Inger Porsch-Hällström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The cytochrome P-450 enzyme system in the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, was shown to be inducible, to consist of several isozymes and to have the capacity to metabolize a variety of substrates, thus resembling the corresponding mammalian system. These similarities strengthens the value of Drosophila test systems for the detection of indirect carcinogens and mutagens. READ MORE

  2. 12. Molecular genetic alterations in chemically-induced lymphomas

    Author : Shi-Mei Zhuang; V. Peter Collins; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Lymphoma is one of the most common malignancies in humans. Its incidence has increased rapidly in the past 30 years. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the development of lymphomas are largely unknown.Environmental carcinogens play an important role in tumorigenesis. READ MORE

  3. 13. Computational Ecotoxicology

    Author : Sergio Manzetti; David Van der Spoel; Janez Mavri; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pollutants; simulation; molecular; dynamic; quantum; chemistry; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Abstract : Human society has progressed by polluting ecosystems since at least the early industrial revolution. Large amounts of harmful chemical compounds have been dispersed in soils, seas, ground waters and wildlife habitats by industrial and anthropomorphic activities over the last two centuries, leading to a persistent toxicological load on the environment. 4. 14. The effect on chromosomal stability of some dietary constituents

    Author : Louise Durling; Per Eriksson; Jan Alexander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biology; Genotoxicity; chromosomal stability; heterocyclic amines; furan; HMF; folic acid; micronucleus test; comet assay; Biologi;

    Abstract : When food is heated, a vast number of compounds are formed. Some of these are known to be toxic. Among these are furan, HMF, PhIP, IQ, and MeIQx, the subjects of this thesis. All these compounds are known or suspected carcinogens but the detailed mechanisms behind their carcinogenicity have not yet been fully examined. READ MORE

  5. 15. Isocyanates - methodology for gas and particle generation, sampling and detection

    Author : Daniel Gylestam; Marianne Dalene; Gunnar Skarping; Daniel Karlsson; Dhimiter Bello; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Isocyanate; PUR; Dry sampler; PTR-MS; Transfer line; PPE; Environmental Chamber; Respirable Particles; Denuder Impactor; Aerosol; Particles; Impinger; air sampling; LC-MS; di-n-butylamine; DBA; ICA; MIC; HDI; TDI; IPDI; MDI; Occupational Exposure; Exposure; Occupational Health; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Isocyanates are mainly used in the industry for the production of polyurethane (PUR) plastics. Workers are at risk of being exposed during the manufacturing of PUR. During thermal degradation of PUR, isocyanates are released and workers involved in hot work such as fire-fighting, welding etc. may also be exposed. READ MORE
