1. Strain echocardiography in cardiac surgery - studies on the effects of loading conditions and inotropic agents on myocardial contraction and relaxation
Abstract : Background: Although reductions in myocardial contractility and relaxation are key compo-nents in heart failure (HF), assessment of them is difficult, as clinical measurements deal with a net effect of myocardial contractility, heart filling (preload), outflow impedance (afterload) and heart rate (HR). Echocardiographic (echo) deformation parameters, like strain (myocardial shortening) and strain rate (the speed of deformation, SR), have been proposed to more accu-rately measure myocardial function, but incongruent previous studies have raised concerns that they may be load-dependent. 2. Minimally invasive cardiorespiratory monitoring and lung recruitment manoeuvres. Studies in animals and humans
Abstract : Background: The maintenance of adequate oxygen delivery is essential to preserve organ function. The circulatory and respiratory systems interact closely to accomplish this. Optimising the function of these systems is of fundamental importance in critically ill patients. This requires adequate monitoring techniques. READ MORE

3. Splanchnic circulation in cardiac surgery
Abstract : The studies addressed different techniques of monitoring hepatic and splanchnic blood flow (SBF) during open heart surgery. Calculations of gastric mucosal pH (pHi) using tonometry was performed in 72 patients, and the effect of dopaminergic stimulation on pH1 was studied in 33 patients. READ MORE

4. Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Heart : Image quality, measurement accuracy and patient experience
Abstract : Background: Non-invasive diagnostic imaging of atherosclerotic coronary artery disease (CAD) is frequently carried out with cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) or myocardial perfusion single photon emission computed tomography (MPS). CMR is the gold standard for the evaluation of scar after myocardial infarction and MPS the clinical gold standard for ischemia. READ MORE

5. Insight into Coro-Carotid atherosclerotic disease in patients with acute coronary syndrome
Abstract : Background: the arterial tree branches in different parts of human body are sharing the histological and physiological features. Atherosclerosis is a systemic arterial disease, hence is expected to affect to affect more than one arterial system with similar pathologic manifestations. READ MORE
