  1. 1. NHBD Lung Transplantation

    Author : Per Wierup; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Surgery; rat; pig; edema formation; lung preservation; bronchial healing; gas exchange; lung evaluation; Lung transplantation; non-heart-beating donor NHBD ;

    Abstract : The waiting list for lung transplantations world-wide is steadily growing. So, the use of lungs from non-heart-beating donors (NHBD) needs to be addressed. Hence, the aim of this thesis was to evaluate, in realistic animal models, the new donor organ concept: NHBD transplantation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Lung Transplantation: Clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Leif Eriksson; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Respiratory system; Follow up Studies; Vascular Resistance; Intensive Care; Induced; Hypothermia; Swine; Extracorporeal Circulation; Lung Transplantation; Organ Preservation; Andningsorganen; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : During the past 15 years lung transplantation has been established as a therapeutic option for patients with end-stage pulmonary disease. The results have improved over time and some transplantation centers now show 1-year survival rates above 80%. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mechanical and histological disturbances in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation

    Author : Matteo Cameli; Michael Henein; Guy Lloyd; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Advanced heart failure; heart transplantation; speckle tracking echocardiography; left ventricular function; right ventricular function; left ventricular fibrosis; left ventricular filling pressure; atrial strain; kariologi; Cariology;

    Abstract : The general purpose of this thesis is to establish capability and accuracy of speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) in assessing left atrial (LA), left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) function and their correlation with myocardial fibrosis, filling pressure and clinical outcomes in advanced heart failure (HF) patients before and after heart transplantation (HT).I demonstrated that HT recipients had impaired LV twist dynamics in the form of reduced rotation twist angle and untwist rate but time to peak twist was not different from the age matched controls and other cardiac surgical patients. 4. 4. Metabolic intervention during blood cardioplegia. Clinical studies in coronary surgery and heart transplantation

    Author : Ulf Kjellman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiac surgery; heart transplantation; oxygen extraction; substrate metabolism; predictors of ischemic injuries; a - ketoglutarate; insulin;

    Abstract : Myocardial ischemia and injury (infarction) during open heart surgery and heart transplantation is a problem in spite of the fact that it is a safe procedure today. The myocardial substrate metabolism is well investigated before and after the cardioplegic period but little knowledge exists about the myocardial metabolic changes during cardioplegia. READ MORE

  5. 5. Experimental modulation and suppression of anti-allograft immune response

    Author : Öyvind Östraat; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; linomide; leflunomide; cyclophosphamide; mycophenolate mofetil; azathioprine; thalidomide; cyclosporin A; ciprofloxacin; flow cytometry; production; IL-2; Rat cardiac transplantation; allograft; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : Abstract The objective of this investigation was to characterise the immunomodulatory or immunosuppressive effects of single drug treatment and the potential synergistic or additive effects of combined treatment with the focus on ciprofloxacin, thalidomide, mycophenolate mofetil, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide or leflunomide added to cyclosporin A (CyA). A rat cardiac transplant model was used to study graft survival and the influence on lymphocytes was evaluated by in vitro tests. READ MORE
