  1. 11. Filamin A in Cardiovascular Remodeling

    Author : Sashidar Bandaru; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Filamin A; Cardiovascular remodelling;

    Abstract : Filamin A (FLNA) is a large actin-binding cytoskeletal protein that stabilizes actin networks and integrates them with cell membranes. FLNA is therefore important for cell motility and organ development. READ MORE

  2. 12. Inflammation and lifestyle in cardiovascular medicine

    Author : Jonas Andersson; Kurt Boman; Jan-Håkan Jansson; Lars Johansson; Joep Perk; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; C-reactive protein; cardiovascular disease; stroke; atrial fibrillation; lifestyle; interleukin-6; tumor necrosis factor-α; exercise; physical activity; obesity; the metabolic syndrome; fibrinolysis; Cardiology; Kardiologi; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Abstract : Despite major advances in the treatment and prevention of atherosclerosis the last several decades, cardiovascular disease still accounts for the majority of deaths in Sweden. With the population getting older, more obese and with rising numbers of diabetics, the cardiovascular disease burden may increase further in the future. READ MORE

  3. 13. Oxidants and antioxidants in cardiovascular disease

    Author : Kim Ekblom; Johan Hultdin; Stefan L Marklund; Lars Breimer; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; first-ever acute myocardial infarction; first-ever stroke; bilirubin; iron; HFE genotypes; UGT1A1*28; prospective; risk factor; Cardiovascular medicine; Kardiovaskulär medicin; Epidemiology; Epidemiologi; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Background Cardiovascular diseases, including myocardial infarction and stroke, are the main reason of death in Sweden and Western Europe. High iron stores are believed to produce oxygen radicals, which is the presumed putative mechanism behind lipid peroxidation, atherosclerosis and subsequent cardiovascular disease. READ MORE

  4. 14. Smokeless Tobacco (Snus) and Cardiovascular Disease : Associations with Heart Failure and Prognosis after Myocardial Infarction

    Author : Gabriel Arefalk; Johan Sundström; Martin Holzmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Snus; smokeless tobacco; nicotine; cardiovascular disease; heart failure; myocardial infarction; mortality; prognosis; epidemiology; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Abstract : Previous investigations of snus use (oral moist snuff, a Swedish form of smokeless tobacco) and cardiovascular disease have generally focused on atherosclerotic events such as myocardial infarction and stroke, likely because smoking is such a well-established risk factor for atherosclerotic disease. Smokeless administration of tobacco circumvents most of the atherogenic effects of the combusted products from smoked tobacco, but it is possible that the potent autonomic and hemodynamic effects of snus and nicotine per se are detrimental for cardiovascular tissues. 5. 15. Novel functions of cardiovascular P2 receptors

    Author : Anna-Karin Wihlborg; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; mRNA; EDHF; UTP; UDP; ADP; ATP; P2 receptor; contraction; dilatation; endothelial cells; Heart; VSMC;

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis was to examine the expression and function of the extracellular nucleotide P2 receptors in the cardiovascular system. In the cardiovascular system nucleotides are released during shear stress, hypoxia, ischemia, from endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, aggregating platelets, inflammatory cells and erythrocytes.
