    Abstract : Chloroorganics have long been assumed to be almost exclusively of anthropogenic origin, and this assumption has played an important role in the public debate regarding the use of chloriue and emissions of chlorine-containing organic compounds. However, studies undertaken during the past decade have demonstrated that, in general, the total amounts of organically bound chloriue in soil and water by far exceed the possible anthropogenic input.
