  1. 1. Lithium formate EPR dosimetry for accurate measurements of absorbed dose in radiotherapy

    Author : Emelie Adolfsson; Åsa Carlsson Tedgren; Eva Lund; Håkan Gustafsson; Sara Olsson; Gudrun Alm Carlsson; Peter Sharpe; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Lithium formate has shown to be a material with properties suitable for electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) dosimetry, among them up to 7 times higher sensitivity compared to alanine, which is a well-established EPR detector material for dose determinations in radiotherapy.The aim of this thesis was to further investigate the properties of lithium formate and develop the dosimetry system towards applications in radiotherapy. 2. 2. Implantation-Site Dependent Differences in Engraftment and Function of Transplanted Pancreatic Islets

    Author : Joey Lau; Per-Ola Carlsson; Leif Jansson; Carina Carlsson; Caroline Kampf; Annika Tibell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell biology; Type 1 diabetes; pancreatic islets; human islets; islet transplantation; vascular engraftment; revascularization; implantation-site; microenvironment; vascular density; insulin release; pro insulin biosynthesis; glucose oxidation; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Transplanting pancreatic islets into the liver through the portal vein is currently the most common procedure in clinical islet transplantations for treating patients with brittle type 1 diabetes. However, most islet grafts fail within a 5-year period necessitating retransplantation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Computerised Microtomography : Non-invasive imaging and analysis of biological samples, with special reference to monitoring development of osteoporosis in small animals

    Author : Mats Stenström; Gudrun Alm Carlsson; Carl Carlsson; Jim Elliot; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Computed microtomography; CμT; signal-to-noise ratio SNR ; non-invasive monitoring; morphological changes; Gastrectomized Sprague-Dawley; osteoporosis; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The use of Computerised microtomography (CμT) in biomedical research is well established, with most applications developed at synchrotron facilities. The possibility to non-invasively monitor morphological changes in biological samples, makes it an attractive technique in biomedicine. READ MORE

  4. 4. MOVPE Growth and Characterization of Low-Dimensional III-V Semiconductor Structures

    Author : Niclas Carlsson; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Semiconductory physics; low-dimensional structures; metalorganic vapour phase epitaxy; quantum wells; self-assembled dots; quantum dots; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Carlsson; Halvledarfysik;

    Abstract : Metalorganic vapour phase epitaxy is used for growth of low-dimensional III-V semiconductor structures. The roughness of heterointerfaces in GaAs/GaInP quantum well structures is studied by photoluminescence emission from extremely narrow quantum wells. READ MORE

  5. 5. Sensory impairment of the upper limb after stroke: influence on daily life and effects of a novel training approach

    Author : Håkan Carlsson; Rehabilitering och hållbar hälsa; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stroke; Upper limb; Sensory impairments; Rehabilitation; Qualitative research; Activities of daily living; Dexterity;

    Abstract : Abstract: Sensory impairments in the upper limb are common after stroke. Different sensory modalities can be affected such as sense of touch, pressure, pain, temperature and proprioception. The sensory impairments can negatively affect motor function, dexterity and the ability to perform daily activities. READ MORE
