11. Studies on arterial endothelial function and intima-media thickness using ultrasound technique
Abstract : Background: The development of ultrasonographic arterial imaging, high-resolution B-mode ultrasonography, has created a technical basis for a new diagnostic approach to atherosclerotic disease by offering the possibility of accurate and reproducible quantification of the structural and functional changes in the arterial wall. Flow-mediated dilation (FMD) of the brachial artery and carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) have been shown to be good surrogate markers of atherosclerosis. READ MORE

12. Vascular ultrasound for the assessment of carotid atherosclerosis
Abstract : Background: Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a common cause for mortality globally, and is expected to remain the single leading cause of death as the global population ages and as life expectancy increases.Cardiovascular screening models have been developed, and continue to be developed, to identify individuals at high-risk of CVD. 13. Atherosclerosis and Insulin Resistance AIR A cross-sectional study of 58-year old men
Abstract : The main aim of the study was to test the hypothesis that insulin resistance is associated with atherosclerotic disease in the carotid and femoral arteries as measured using the ultrasound technique in clinically healthy 58-year old men with varying degrees of obesity and insulin resistance. The subjects were recruited from the general population and were free from clinical cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus and treatment with antihypertensive, lipid-lowering and anti-diabetic drugs (n=818). 14. Cardiovascular structure and function in obesity. The impact of body composition, sleep apnea and sustained weight loss
Abstract : Background: Obesity is associated with disturbances in cardiovascular structure and function varying along with the degree of fatness, but the mechanisms underlying this co-variation are unclear. Short-term weight loss appears to have favourable effects on the cardiovascular system, but whether such improvements are maintained in the long run is unknown. READ MORE

15. Imaging of subclinical atherosclerosis by B-mode ultrasound. Measurement reproducibility and assessment of atherosclerotic plaque occurrence, size and echogenicity in relation to cardiovascular disease
Abstract : Atherosclerosis is an insidious disease that in general has a very long clinical silent phase. This disease does not take place uniformly in the arterial tree, instead major sites for this disease process are the coronary arteries, carotid and cerebral arteries, aorta and the large arteries to the lower extremities.
