6. Distribution of antiviral nucleoside analogues into brain and skin
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to study physiological and physico-chemical factors influencing the pharmacokinetics and distribution over the blood-brain barrier of antiviral nucleoside analogues in the rat, and to study the distribution to the human skin in vivo of an anti-herpetic nucleoside analogue. Microdialysis was used to sample the free (unbound) extracellular concentration of the nucleoside analogues from the brain tissue, muscle and blood in the rat and from the dermis of healthy human volunteers. 7. Magnetism of manganites, semiconductors and spin glasses
Abstract : Magnetic and electrical properties of selected compounds containing manganese (Mn) are investigated by SQUID magnetometry and transport measurements.(Ga,Mn)As is a magnetic semiconductor obtained from GaAs by substituting Ga3+ for Mn2+. Mn acts in the alloy as a magnetic impurity, as well as a hole dopant. READ MORE

8. Biopharmaceutical Evaluation of Intra-arterial Drug-Delivery Systems for Liver Cancer : Investigations in healthy pigs and liver cancer patients
Abstract : There are currently two types of intra-arterial drug-delivery system (DDS) in clinical use in the palliative treatment of primary liver cancer. The chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin (DOX) can be formulated into a drug-in-lipiodol emulsion (LIPDOX) or a microparticulate drug-eluting bead system (DEBDOX). READ MORE

9. Anthracycline pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics in acute myeloid leukemia
Abstract : The goal of this thesis has been to study pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of anthracyclines in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with the ultimate goal to improve chemotherapy: 1. By studying the relation between daunorubicin (DNR) and idarubicin (IDA) uptake in vitro and in vivo and apoptosis in vitro in leukemic cells isolated from patients with AML. READ MORE
